People change, especially from the way they were as children. Experiences shape people. It has nothing to do with gender.
In high school I was a totally different person than I am today. Most of how I was acting was a result of boredom and the desire to not be singled out and tormented. That happened to me in 7th grade. When I found out that guys liked me, I dated popular guys to avoid being targeted by the popular girls. I became friends with the popular girls, and remained so until I dated a guy who was unpopular. They made the last year of my high school experience living hell because they felt I chose the wrong person to date.
If a person who knew me then would talk to me today, they would find that I'm more laid-back and much less into the posturing, etc. that teen girls engage in. For some, it's a fake self-assurance that keeps them from being hurt by other girls.
The sexes are different. When a man marry a woman, he hope she won't change but she will. When a woman marry a man, she hope to change him, but he won't change.
Motherhood changes you in alot of ways. So does fatherhood. People become a little more grounded and responsible. You have to because you have kids. In some ways you become more easygoing. In other ways you get more strict. I find that I understand others a bit better now than I did before. Parenthood changes you but it doesn't have to be in a negative way!
