Yes, the economy looks pretty bad right now and yes things are getting worse, but we will get out of it. It isn't as bad as the Great Depression, and life is better than it was during GD. However, it will take some time to get out of this rough economic situation.

Nevertheless, we can do it. Our world got through the Great Depression, so it can get through this. Governments are taking action to stop that from happening. During the G D, there weren't as many controls in place. Now, there are. Of course, the government won't save the economy quickly, but it can help lessen the impact and reduce the problems. That's a very good question -- given the instability of several nuclear armed nations. I think this economy is very fixable. We have commited huge sums -- the $800 Billion Bernanke just threw into the pot is truly historically unprecedented. You can't throw what much fuel and that many sparks into the tinder box without lighting some kind of a fire. It's not $8 Billion -- it's $800 Billion! The Obama Brain Trust has got more brains in it than the White House ever saw since JFK. These guys and gals all know Obama does not like sniping and backbiting, if they don't know it Rhambo Emmanuel will scream it into their heads in a way they won't soon forget. This is a team of strong workhorses and they will pull together. Intelligence, which Plato called Noos has often been associated with the Divine. I think we have some Divine Energy in the New Administration, and they've got about $1.5 Trillion to spend, so within two years I think the economy will be back on track, making good cars, creating energy technologies that are world class, and putting the ordinary working people back to work. Economics is a reflexive phenomenon (read Soros' new book on the subject). We are not molecules in a box. The objects of economic science are thinking beings. When the spirit moves them, there's no limit to what they can attain in terms of material prosperity -- particularly here where we've got the world center of engineering, technology, high tech, energy research, manufacturing of aircraft, basic research, medical science and pharmacology. The end of the world, I would put that at least 10 or 20 years in the future, but I think we can turn the economy around by January 2011 at the latest, and quite possibly by January 2010. So it is a good question, but the answer is "fixing the economy".
