I'm an 18 year old dependent that lives at home, with two parents in suburbia Michigan. Neither of them work for the Big 3, but we still live in Michigan...I'm concluding my senior year of high school, getting ready for college next June. My question is, with an economic collapse predicted in the next 1-2 years, what can I expect to change in my life, and is there anything I can do to prepare? Who have you been listening to? the newspapers? they are in business to sell papers. the more worried they can make you the quicker you'll pick up a paper that says "another crisis looming". The point is "life goes on" people still get married, eat, have sex, have kids, drive, work... all that stuff, same as they ever did and will continue to do that. What you will experience within the next two years will be marked inflation along with a fairly high unemployment rate driven by high cost of credit (high interest rates) driving down the demand for large purchases. Increasing wages, more public construction, higher priced imports, lower cost housing, poor quality automobiles with lower sticker prices, incresed generosity (giving to public or private assistance programs) increasing population of middle class, poor people getting real poor, rich people pulling completely away from the masses in what they can afford compared to the populous. Emerging technology, new business, China emerging as a world power and developer of third world countries, a flat stock market, and a general feeling of stuck.
