I am looking for the name and artist of a song I heard while I was in Morocco a couple of weeks ago. It seems as though it was a pop song, as my bus tour leader had it playing in his car and I also heard it out on a public plaza. The bus tour leader said that the artist was "Hassan" or "Hasan," but I haven't found any match for the song. It is a very simple song, beginning with just slow, languid beats coming from a large drum. The chorus is a mix of singing and wailing and consists of the word "Africa," but pulled out over several beats of the drum. The only other hint I have is that a line from the song is "Nous sommes les enfants d'Afrique," or translated, "We are the children of Africa."

  • Unfortunately, this also isn't the right song. I happened upon that song during a number of Google searches and I'm fairly certain it isn't the right one. The song I'm looking for is sung in French (and Arabic, I think), and therefore, the original lyrics should be in French (and Arabic) rather than the translation of the lyrics. I suspect the song would be well-known by someone who is familiar with modern African music. One additional insight is that it sounds like it could be a mourning/funeral song as it has a very somber feel to it. Thanks for any assistance you can provide.
