This may be minor, but for some it could be rather annoyance.
With this beta version (2.1.292.3816/307), if Outpost is opened with the splash / link / welcome screen (“My Internet” highlighted), Outpost is trying to establish an internet connection even if the automatic update option is unchecked.
This is rather annoying, since most users may not want to go online every time they open Outpost. In addition, there is no real obvious need for this behaviour, unless it’s some sort of dial-home routine, which by itself would be rather infuriating!
Also, one should keep in mind users who rely on a dial-up internet connection. For those users, it would not only be annoying, but could be costly due to dial-up charges. This is still not a perfect world, and it is estimated that more than 76.4% of internet users world wide are still on a slow (and often costly) dial-up connection!
Either this is a bug in the present Outpost beta, or if not, than this routine should be removed as soon as possible.
heart have you checked your Private Messages.
There are 3 items under Tools that are checked and you can uncheck them to stop the out going connection requests.

Randy
Firstly my apologies to hayc59 & GoonMan for my belated reply (due to work commitments)
haysc59:
yes it’s definitely the latest beta version (see my initial thread for version info) – I’m a beta tester and posted this here to see if others have found similar behaviours;
GoonMan
thanks, but “Enable News Download” and any other Tools options are unchecked, yet this beta of OP on my two test-beds (XP-SP1 & W2K3) still tries to connect (more so under XP, rarely under W2K3). Mind you, it doesn’t do it all the time, seems to be a rather random behaviour at this stage …
Anyway, thanks for all help; I’ll see what Agnitum has to say
Regards to all - Heart
heart,
Try the following:
Click on Network Activity
Right Click in the right hand pane of the GUI.
Choose Columns
In the lower left of the Columns configuration screen click on Advanced.
In the Advanced configuration scren set resolve to Never.
Let us know if that solves your problem.
No problem I often have the same problem when I'm at work.
heart please Private Message David or Megahertz.
heart David asked you to PM him the URL not put it in your post.
No problem heart,:)
But please get into contact with David or Megahertz by PM. So they can confirm you being a beta tester & add you to the beta testers forum.
MegaHertz;
thanks for that; yes that seems to do the trick - I'll try it for a day or two and report back.
Sorry for the brief replay but work's a-callin' ...
regards - heart

I am a little concerned. Danil informs me about all new Beta Testers so that I can give them access to the Beta Tester's forum. Can you PM me with the link that you use to download the Beta Version? It is the same link for all, so no personal information will be compromised.

1. Go to the Outpost GUI. From the menu, choose 'Tools'.
2. Uncheck 'Enable News Download'.
3. Uncheck 'Enable Plugins Information Download'.
4. Uncheck 'Automatically Check for Updates'.
If after unchecking all of those items you are still having problems, then I am not sure what to say. But, let us now. Also, please confirm your Beta Tester status with Agnitum and have Danil contact me so that I can give you access to the Beta Tester forum.
Sorry for your difficulties and I hope my advice can help move things along.
Have a nice day. :)
GoonMan;
oops - sorry aout the slip up!
heart, First off are you sure your using beta version??
Second have you tried un-checking the 'enable-news download'
in tools?
David;
rest assured, Danil did his job well; this is the link confirmation as requested:

for more details check my tid’s 5405, 5473 & 5528
BTW, I already tried (and have done so) un-checking as per your last info. Also please note, as I said in my previous post, so far this is a rather random behaviour.
I’ve recently reported another odd behaviour, whereby OP doesn’t seem to block popups with a certain combination of Active Content settings (see my reports).
I yet have to test these findings with a minimal and basic XP installation, in case some other software/driver might be to blame here (which I somewhat doubt; but hey, anything is possible). I’ll install this OP beta on a new XP Pro box I’ll have to play with next Tuesday/Wednesday, and see if the behaviours reoccur.
P.S.: very nice new-look forum!!
URL was Edited. Randy
