*Moved to computer help
what happened was you posted a question about MSN messenger
in outpost forum so folks thought you had an issue with 'MSN and Outpost'
you obviously dont use Outpost so give some history on your issue
i thought this was a computer help forum.
It is Jessi, but you need to divulge a little more
info on your problem you are having...I for one have my 'crystal'
out being polished ;)
Jessi, may I suggest aim or trillian
they are much better anyways
ok.
where can i post this problem?
lol :-)
i haven't been able to log on to msn for a long time. it's driving me crazy. nobody knows what the problem is. when i logon, it hangs for 15-20 minutes and stays frozen. i never get any error messages.
any ideas, hayc59?

Blocking unwanted Parasites with a Hosts file (http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm).
What is the Hosts file (http://accs-net.com/hosts/what_is_hosts.html)
Remember you can always use Google !
i'm not using a fire wall. just xp's own firewall.
i don't know what a hosts file is.
i'll check these sites for clues.
thanks.

Jessica, as other users of Outpost Pro Firewall 'we' assume you are using it too and now has difficulty to use your Messenger. If you are not an Agnitum Outpost Firewall user make that clear,
If you are an Outpost user, then the HELP you need is how to set Outpost to ALLOW messenger to connect to the internet. I think your 'outpost firewall? what's that have to do with msn?' causes a bit of confusion since you are asking Outpost Firewall Forum 'users'. :o

Thanks Gordon :)
thanks,
:)
but i have all my mail and buddy list in msn messenger. and still it's frozen. will not launch. don't know what to do.
i'll give trillian or aim a try.
thanks

Do you have a Hosts file? Have you checked it is not blocking some site needed to login? Are you using a firewall?
Here is a post by a msft mvp which may help

Hi Jessica16,
I will try and read your mind :)
Go to Options, Plug Ins, DNS Cache, and untick the "block extra long DNS requests" box.
Let us know if that helped.

Hi Jessica16
Unfortunately msn messenger has been getting steadily worse and more unreliable for the last year or so.
I used to use it to communicate with family and friends, but I and they have found it so absolutely unreliable that we have all now moved to skype, and those that used hotmail addresses have made alternative email arrangements.
One suggestion that may help, for your email, change the browser you use... shouldn't make any difference, but without changing any settings I notice that sometimes Firefox works and IE doesn't, and sometimes its the other way round.
I have a feeling that your failure to access msn is not caused by anything wrong in your computer, it's just that msn is becoming totally unreliable.
Just to comment, yahoo messenger now has stopped working reliably for many users unless that add it to the trusted zone of their firewall. This is not right, and in my opinion yahoo messenger and explorer toolbar now acts just like spyware. Maybe msn messenger is going the same way?
It seems to me that either you could try a third party instant messenger, such as trillian, that will handle msn... but that won't fix access to your email.
Good luck, sorry I can't be more positive, but msn is simply becoming less and less reliable and dependable.
