I am doing a research paper on modern feminism, I still do not know whether I am for it or against it. I am definitely "FOR" feminism of the past which granted women basic rights everyone should have had. But now women have the same rights as men same opportunities and same everything. Well I don't know maybe there are some inequalities. I am a feminist in the sense I support what the feminists of the past have done. But as for modern feminism, to be honest I know nothing about it. Please educate me.
Modern feminism is obsolete. Modern feminists have gone beyond fighting for equality and stepped over the line into misandry and men-bashing. It's not longer, as it once was (or at least I assume it was as I wasn't alive at the beginning of it) a fight for equality but rather has been turned into a venue for women to bash all men just because they were raped or otherwise mistreated by one. The current goal of feminists as best I can gather is to guilt trip men so that they are as miserable as they are.
Modern feminism is all about double standards and special treatment for women (thus contradicting the original "equality" idea) and holding men responsible for all their problems.
Modern feminism no longer serves a purpose in society as a political group, just like you said women have achieved equal rights and opportunity, so why the need to keep calling yourself a feminists if your goals have been met?
Modern feminism is a very selfish theory.
It's fighting against equality, men's rights and women's responsibility.

Modern feminism to me is silly because it states that women can do and deserve all the same things as men.
Don't get me wrong, i am a feminist (yes guys can be feminists) but modern feminism fails to realize that there are simply things girls and guys are better suited too.

To me the sad thing is that jobs better suited to women are in less demand and typically don't pay as well. Its sad that a welder makes 3 times as much as a secretary or receptionist. People frown on secretarial jobs because they seem menial and simple. I dare any guy to be a receptionist in a high call volume center. Girls can multi-task to levels that are simply phenominal.
As a guy living in a modern feminism time it frustrates me though. Girls seem to want all the perks of being a guy (high paying job, workplace incentives, belong to "the old boys" club etc) but they don;t get any of the crappy parts (paying for dates, last off a sinking ship, hold doors open, make the first romantic move)
Thats what frustrates the hell out of guys

Modern feminists aren't really fighting against things. Modern feminists are fighting FOR equal opportunities, rights, and 'everything' with men - these things have not yet been achieved, not in the minority world countries, and especially (though not always) in the majority world countries.
I wouldn't support modern feminism on the basis of equality because a large amount of modern feminism is not about equality but about certain women getting their own way. You can be for the original concepts of feminism without being a self-described feminist (i.e. part of the actual movement).
I don't know about modern feminists as a group, but I for one am a feminist as per the correct definition - believing in equal rights - and my main concerns are fair and equal treatment within the workplace. Unfortunately this is still a major issue for many women as they are still expected to be the primary caregivers for children. I believe the extension of maternity leave in the UK - and the inequality in parental leave - is partly responsible for discrimination against women in the workplace. (Blatant discrimination against women just because they are women also exists, you only have to look at some of the comments on this forum.)
Women will never have equality in the workplace until they are not automatically seen as the primary caregivers.
Modern Feminism is predicated on the notion that men are responsible for most problems and that hatred and irrational fear of modern men is a reasonable idea as is revenge against modern men.
Modern feminism is the radical notion that women can do whatever the hell they like because one day there will be no women's prisons.
Modern Feminism is fighting for many things.
1) It's taking a more international approach -- "feminists without borders" if you will -- to help women in other countries that don't yet have votes for women, or any form of punishment for violence against women, for example. Actually violence against women is a local issue as well.
2) It's expanding beyond just the blanket term "women's rights." Modern Feminism doesn't just fight for women's rights, it fights for black women's rights, working-class women's rights, disabled women's rights, GLBTQ rights, etc. etc.
3) Women still don't receive equal pay for equal work.
4) Women are still under-represented in governments
5) Some women still have the outdated, and yes, SEXIST idea that they have to be thin, get married to a rich man, have children, and blah blah blah in order to be happy. Modern Feminism is about boosting women's self esteem.
I could go ON and ON, but 5 points is probably as much as anyone is willing to read.
P.S. There are very few feminists who "hate men" and this stereotype is partly what makes people shy away from calling themselves feminists or paying attention to the real issues. Anyone who hates men (or women) can't be FOR equality.
Good question, I don't know what modern feminism's goals are. As you stated, we are all equal in the eyes of the law. If your rights are violated, there is recourse through the court system and other avenues.
