I apologise if this is an old question but here goes. If travelling in Y (near the back) and checking in at a kiosk, if you request a seat change, do you have access to any empty seats near the front of Y that during online reservations seem to be reserved for Elite members? Is there a charge?

Emergency exits cannot be assigned at checkin. However sometimes the computer will pre-assign an emergency exit row seat, but if you change it to something else, you will not be able to get it back. Also, rows with movable armrests are also not available online. On the 321 I am talking about rows 33 - 36 seats C and D, and perhaps a few rows further forward as well. Funny you ask.. I actually just did a seat change last minute and I got a seat that was available only to P/SE/E. Turns out a connecting plane from LHR wasn't going to make it, so a bunch of seats opened up.. Always worth a try! I was originally supposed to be in 21A and I got 13F.

If you're in Y, what a/c has such a nice 6A? For my regular DH1/3, row 1 is the only way to go. ;)
