But theres a giant triptych downtown thats apparently the coolest GTA IV http://weblogs.variety.com/the_cut_scene/2008/04HOME | in the latest movie set in china, there is scenes where it is old shanghai in the 1940's i think and with the old jazz clubs and olden cars and narrow streets. it looks so cool, but are those narrow shanghai streets real? like do they actually exist or something similar in shanghai? or are they just fictional made up sets in studios of wat directors picture it looks like? thnx!
Yes Shanghai was like that once, up until 1930's then the Japanese invated China, after that it started to lose the old chic look and then in 1949 then China became the P.R. China many of these places there forced to close.

That movie is a disgrace to our culture. It is embarrassing for our first king to be show as an evil dragon. shame on the american directors for doing this they will never understand
it was like that in the 40's but due to war and internal struggle...many of those quarters are now gone ...however, you can still see some today
there are many houses and streets in shanghai that bears the beauty of the past.....as for the studio thing...there's a movie studio in shanghai which features many of the streets that you are talking about
