  • Has the ability to scan an entire database been removed from the videos section? I just completed my very first compile and whoa! mucho changes in the Video's section. I read the changelog at sourceforge and I see some major overhauls are going on but I didn't see anything specifically stating that database scan had been removed. Did I fubar my build or did I just build a "work in progress" that hasn't been fully implemented.

Thanks for any info you can pass this way!

  • everything is stored in the video database

  • extension removal from files

  • I suppose it depends on the amount of scrapers you will be using. Will the info be stored in udata, i.e. updating xbmc won't require a new setup?

  • All SVN builds are a work in progress.

  • Excellent spiff! Thanks for the information! oh...and you to kraqh3d...(obviously)

  • Makes perfect sense ;) Thx for clarifying! I suppose if there someday is a way to sync the videoDB to multiple xboxes (via a python script or stored on a share) there won't be a need for multiple setups anyway.

  • I just can't seem to figure out how to get a full IMDB lookup with DVD thumbs to work. I have tried the procedure below in file view within My videos as well as Library view... Am I doing something wrong?

When going into My Videos and then navigating to the directories that contain my DVD's, I choose movies for content and then tick the option to Run Automated Scan, I have tried with and without the Scan Recursively ticked as well as the Folder names look up. I get no thumbs downloading but it does look like it is scanning IMDB. Unless you have sped up this process I don't think it is actually downloading any movie info.

Another something I noticed is that IMDB does not seem to recognize the "_" symbol. eg. DUMB_AND_DUMBER. Up to now it has always been able to work with these types of file names.

If this seems like an unbalanced compromise, maybe not the best negotiating on a stop-gap of random physical screening until complete screening is implemented.

Its not clear at the time of writing whether this update is something users can their wanted product, but there should be an option to browse from the More menu.

Any advise and help will as always be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

  • the database can only be located on the local hard drive. but a python script could be written to ftp the video database off to a remote location for retrieval by another xbox.

  • nah,

but we did had a mishap, so a couple of small issues fixed in svn now.

filename based lookups were completely arsed due to some unexpected wonky behaviour during scans (a few unexpectedly disabled settings..)

dvd's you probably have in video_ts folders. so that's why the lookups based on folder names didnt work.

    try with a newer svn.

  • the auto-stacking?

  • i fail to see how doing it on one folder on each box is such a hassle. i have not planned such a feature.

  • I havent looked at spiff's changes in detail yet, but there used to be a function which "cleaned" the filename before passing it to imdb. I believe it used to replace the underscore with a space. This may have been removed for the moment while spiff incorporated the changes to support the different content types so multiple scrapers could be used.

  • no.

    it's very much there.

this is how it works. in preparation for tv shows and other additional content, you now need to tell xbmc that a directory/media source contains movies. you do this by opening the context menu on the path and selecting set content.

Will it also be possible to specify this in an xml? If I have multiple xboxes it seems inconvenient to be doing the settings manually for every xbox.
