I'd be happy to do the operatio for free, no anethestic either to keep the costs low!
if you really need it why don't you make a charity campaign,email company's and that or write emails to doctors or something tell them whats happening and you need their help :)
Your mate should go to one of the special Hip Clinics that have been set up. His GP will give him an appointment with a Specialist at the Clinic withing a week and then within a further 4 weeks he will be having replacement surgery - all on the NHS. No need to take out a £8,500 loan.
I don't know where you are but for instance there is one in Reading.
You need to talk with someone in your community about setting up a charity fundraiser. Also talk with your church about this I am sure they can help you. Good luck
