After years of being nagged to get a second phone line I have decided to go for ASDL connection in the next few months. Just going thru info on modems at present to get the best. I haven't a clue how it all works but it sure looks like fun. Any pitfalls to look out for would be appreciated. I take it Outpost won't let me down.
One thing I do need to know though. I am aware I can remain connected 24/7 (Boy do I miss KZPS) and use the phone at the same time. can they all be 'on line' at the same time and the phone used?The answer is yes if you are using a "Router". My Router of choice is the Linksys BEFSR41 V2. But if hard-wiring your 4 PC's together is too difficult, you might go with a wireless unit. It's much more expensive, but it works fine when the PC's are separated by long distances within the dwelling or wiring them together is too difficult. There are other brands out there besides Linksys which others may recommend to you. Also, with 4 PC's you would probably have to go with the Linksys 8 Port model rather than the 4 Port (BEFSR41 V2).

Just enter each PC's IP into Outpost's "Trusted Zone". Voila!!
Another consideration is if you are networking the PC's then you must use Outpost Pro. :D

Yes, you can use the phone and access the internet all at the same time. There is a filter (keeps the phone from interfering with the DSL) that goes on each phone jack... make sure you get enough of them for all your needs. Also, depending on who you're getting your DSL service from, they may want/demand to supply the dsl modem... if so, and there's a choice, make sure it's an external DSL modem. Qwest, for example, sold many of their DSL customers on using an internal modem (Cisco 605) which turned out to be quite a limitation to us later on. Many thanx Pilgrim. This looks like an expensive outlay but it will no doubt be worth it in the end. I can't hard connect the machines together as they are all over the house and get moved about a bit. A major fear connecting machines together in any way, shape or form is the security of my pride and joy as kids are into Kassa and the like. Razor wire and pit bull have been suggested but that's not fair on the dog. :D
