  • Ok so for the past 3 days almost everyone i have talked to has said something in relevance to me going into labor because the full moon is tomorrow October 14,2008 at 8:04pm. I am 37 weeks and 2 days and not due until the 1st but everyone keeps pointing this week out as it being my Due week. I was wondering if any of you have had this experience or know someone who has

  • I think it's just a myth...5 babies here and none born during a full moon. Labor is triggered by the hormone Oxytocin which causes the uterus to contract. Since no one really knows what makes a woman's body start producing more Oxytocin (some say its the baby and some say its just a woman's body knows when to) you can find lots of silly myths about labor.

Congrats on your precious baby and wishing you a safe easy labor whenever that may be :)

    Proud momma to 5

  • Don't know anyone who has...don't really believe it anyway.

  • I don't believe in it. It is just a myth. The baby will come when he or she is ready, whether that is tonight, tomorrow or 3 weeks from now. No self-induction or full moon will change the babies schedule.

    Good luck!

  • I hope so cause I'm 37 weeks as well and ready to have my baby!! I have my fingers crossed!
As for it actually working, who knows.
My midwife once told me that it is a strange phenomenon that during a storm or a full moon, more women on average show up at the hospital in labor. She attributed that to the change in air pressure during storms, and the gravitational pull increase during a full moon.
Is there scientific data to back it up? Not really. But there's no data to back up the heart-rate, sex determination theory either...however that works most of the time as well.
    The world may never know.........
