CrossFire Cards - Computing.Net:: 31 posts - Last post: Mar 15, 2008I think you need to do a little research before you buy anything. conserning the CPU/ FSB the answer is that you should match them up http://www.computing.net/answers/hardware/crossfire-cards/51497.htmlHOME | There is a search window that opens up when you are composing an answer that suggests you might do a little research before you post your answer. Does anyone ever do that? Don't you think people would not bother trying to answer a question if they didn't already think they knew the answer? Don't we have something better to do with our time than try to answer a question that we have to research in order to answer? If you don't want to take the time to give an educated, well thought out, well argued and supportable answer then you probably shouldn't be here. The point is to network people together to find answers to their questions. I find it disappointing how few people actually DO research their answers. You get the "Dude, I don't really know" answers or "I think that's how it works because my sister's friend said..." Let's put a bit more effort into it than that!
depends on how important the question is - I wouldn't like to make a mistake if giving someone help with their homework for example or on anything of major importance - when I think I know the answer I often double check just to make sure I don't give bad advice because bad advice is worse than no advice at all.
Soular, Hi, let me do a little research before I answer your question! :) I am kidding with you, please take no offense. Wow, you really don't know how astute and germane your question presents! Well done, my interesting Friend. We use this forum as Q&A and not Q&F (fact) because for many of us we do take the question you ask seriously, and don't want to pop off 'one-liners' merely to add to our points. You have asked a question that deserves a dignified response! One person the other day said many of the answers he were reading seemed to be based on personal opinion without any fact! I have witnessed this time and time again, myself! Answers in our community have to reflect not only personal opinion (based on life experiences), but should be justified by what we are told is fact. I mean, really, we are on the computer with a wealth of knowledge at our finger tips. How do I serve you, my friend, by blurting out 'spin' or 'talking points' if they do not reflect my diverse opinion salted with experience, and nicely seasoned with facts? Please forgive my analogy to food, I am hungry! You said, "Don't we have something better to do with our time than try to answer a question that we have to research in order to answer?" I ask only you be patient with my answer which tends to run rather long. When I see such a important question as yours I can't help giving you what I see as a complete answer. In this community some incredibly intelligent people can smack the hammer right on the head with a succinct answer. I am a Doctor, so I am picky on what I want to spend my time on answering, especially when it packs more merit than even the person asking the question may realize. As I mentioned earlier we are giving personal answers=opinions vs. no research into the facts (as a rule) to supply you with your need to know. I can't and will not do it that way. If I toss off a reply based on my opinion, I feel like I have robbed you of a different perspective. Let me give you an example of what I term "playground issues" - The other day I saw a question that asked if you could come back as any animal which one would it be and why? To me this is 'kiddy talk' and although I appear disingenuous and nonsympathetic to this asker's question, I am being selective on the 'use of my time' ! Maybe this person believes in reincarnation and is genuinely interested in answers/opinions from the community. So with this caveat, I must now answer the question less I step on delicate toes. I would want to return as a cow in India! In India cows are viewed as "Holy"vessels and allowed to roam free throughout the land until their life expires. Where did I come up with that? - the 4+ hours movie on Mahatma Ghandhi! Research? - sort of! I digress so let's get back to the 'research' factor! I sincerely hope that the Yahoo community does back up an answer with research. Everyone wins if an answer can be placed in proper context with 'informed' contributors at the helm! I have had 10 years of post high school education - 4 years in pre-med + 6 years of Professional education. I don't have all the answers and I would be a liar to tell you that I do not research a question. Yes, I research questions that interest me. I am a Mensa member and I want to stir it up with other people in the community that ask a question in which they want a sincere, complete, and researched answer. Life comes and goes too quickly, so when someone such as yourself hits the 'mother-load of a question', then, yes, I owe you my best! I am not a computer so I rely on research to give you a credible answer you can live with! I don't know who you are but if you thought that was a simplistic throw-away question, then you were mistaken my Friend. Yours is the kind of brain pan I would like to discuss topics with anyday. Congratulations, you just put the true reason for the development of this community in a nutshell. We must start to depend on each other for both opinion and researched answers before one day we wake up only to find that we will be told what to think. IT HAS HAPPENED BEFORE-TRUST ME-RESEARCH A BOOK CALLED, "MEIN KAMPF"! The book recounts the history, popularity, and propaganda of Adolf Hitler. I consider many questions to be barely philosophical, let alone researchable.
If the question requires research, I open a new tab and start anew.
No, I write any old rubbish, just like everyone else !
No because either
1. The questions can be answered with common sense
2. I already know the answer
I have a couple of times.
no, why would I do that.
Sometimes, especially when I want verification of a thought. I am amazed by the number of people who give such outrageous or mistaken answers and have their e-mail blocked. I guess ignorance is bliss ? LOL
I will check if I *think* I know an answer but just want confirmation I'm not misinforming someone. I'll usually do this in cases where I see other people haven't answered yet, so giving someone a nudge in the right direction on how to research it themselves is better than no answer at all IMO. Also I think its good to say "I believe" or "not 100% on this but..."
In addition sometimes people will back up their answer with crazy sites anyway that talk about how chickens can make with fish or something ridiculous like that. So people should be careful what they read. No one knows everything 100% but we can try our best to help each other.
Sometimes I do. If I flat out know the answer, I'll just say it and leave it at that. But sometimes a more in depth answer is needed. Or sometimes I'll be 90% certain about something, and look it up just to make sure. Then I'll include the link to back me up.
depends on how much i know...if i want to answer quickly, i jus give em what i got. but if i wanna sound smart...i make sure i know what im saying. i either do research (if the topic interests me thaaat much) or i just dont give an answer if the one i have isnt good enough already. what i dont like is this spell check thingy that pops up while im typing...like i dont know that im not using proper grammar and punctuation xdd
I do. And I do it cause for someone to ask a question and the answer seems the simplest to find by doing a search, tells me that maybe they don't know how to or think of first doing a search. Or that maybe they didn't type in enough information and came up with "no information found on 'little research' ", so they come here and ask.
I have research and at times, I come up blank. With no answer for them, so I go on to the next question of my interest.
Depends on the question. I was helping someone today with a homework project they obviously didn't understand. I happened to know of a site that could help them. So, I researched and found it. I left the URL on the research box and got a private thank you for taking the time to help them figure out how to solve the problem. So, sometimes it does come in handy.
If I have the time, why not? Folk have done a 'little research' and helped me. Why not return the favor? Sometimes folk have looked for the longest for an answer, only to come up short. It's alright because there are folk who sincerely don't mind doing a small amount of research and giving the references to support it. I enjoy this website. Peace!
