How can I get my Whirlpool Gold Quiet Partner dishwasher to drain? I
do not have the owners manual to troubleshoot the problem.I think the
model number is GU980SCGB2.

I'm sorry to hear your dishwasher isn't draining properly. I went to
the Whirlpool site and they have a neat question and answer diagnoses
called "Appliance Doctor" (

problem and here is what it asked me:
"Check under the sink for the drain hose or line. Is it kinked or
plugged?"
"Did you hear ANY water draining from the dishwasher? (one should be
able to hear the water draining into the sink)."
"Did the dishwasher complete its cycle where the timer advanced back
to the off or start position?"
"Is this model of Dishwasher, a Solid State Model? (solid state is the
one with electronic display?"
I played around with answering the questions in different ways and it
always gave me the same answers: the machine may need service.
"We recommend that you contact your local authorized service. One of
the following parts is probably faulty.
A service call is recommended.
Locate your nearest Servicer
One or more of the following parts may need to be replaced:
Timer
Pump/Motor Assembly
Start Relay"
If you do want to have it serviced, Whirlpool does give you a service
locator to make finding an appropriate place easier:

Your dishwasher may have food or lime/calcium buildup trapped inside
it that may prevent it from draining properly, it could have a kink in
its hose, or it may need a new part. I looked up dishwasher repair and
found a lovely site called Appliance Aid (

information on how to open the dishwasher and repair it yourself. Here
is a bit of what they say about how the dishwasher types actually
work, to give you a better idea of what you're dealing with and how to
go about finding a solution to the problem:

Another site I found gives advice on one of Whirlpool's dishwashers
from Sears that isn't draining properly. The question and response is
about three quarters of the way down the page. Here is an excerpt:
"Drain problem in Whirlpool dishwasher.
This information was provided to me as a courtesy from Mr. Pete
Toriello. I gave him a little information and he provided me with the
cure for his drain problem. His check valve was defective, and was
keeping his dishwasher from draining. I have edited this to reflect
the procedure needed to check the dishwasher for not draining. Thanks
Pete. This will help others in the future. This dishwasher from Sears
is a 665 prefix model number Whirlpool made dishwasher..."

Under "what is wrong with your dishwasher?" choose "The water doesn't
drain from the machine" and the page jumps down to a plethora of
things to check:
"If the water doesn't drain from your dishwasher, check these:
Drain line/air gap
Pump
Drain valve and/or solenoid
Belt
Motor
Timer
Drain line/air gap
A clog in the drain line or air gap (if there is one) is the usual
reason that a dishwasher won't drain. Often the problem is at the
point where the drain line attaches to the garbage disposer or
household drain line. If you remove this line, you can clear any
debris from the hose or hose connection. Be sure to reattach the hose
before starting the dishwasher again..."

I looked all over for information on your 900 series Whirlpool Gold,
but Whirlpool's site only talked about energy efficiency and did not
provide an online manual. Their troubleshooting area left much to be
desired and did not provide any kind of helpful information at all.
I hope this information has helped and that you are able to get your
dishwasher back up and running again.:)
