Resolved - it was a bug caused by adding the combo directly to an anchor layout. The input field was being rearranged by the container. Seems like a bug? [#WW-1578] ComboBox works incorrect within <label> - Apache Struts ::

Many people are reporting strange rendering problems when using layouts other than 'form' to render their forms. I think we need to clarify the docs in which layouts are supported. I will consult the rest of the team on this issue.
Tranforming a select takes place immediately, but what you want is for the rendering to be handled by the FormLayout. You can still transform, but delay the render by passing lazyRender:true in the combobox config.
