I have a $50 companion fare certificate from applying for an Alaska Air credit card earlier this year. It says that it is valid for one year from date of issuance, but there is no issuance date either on the coupon itself or on the letter it was attached to. How do I (and AS) know when the coupon is valid till?

Not to question an answer but I called AS about this previously and they told me you had to purchase and fly by that date. Of course, they could have changed this rule. If you log into your account on the AS website, then click on the "View my discount codes" under the "My Discount Codes" section, you will see your companion fare listed there. On the far right side, there is a "valid till" date. Note that you can shop and reserve with the certificate until that date, you do not have to fly by that date.

The rules are quite clear:
"Purchase By: Expiration date on e-Certificate." (my emphasis).
I've used both mine and my husbands for flights after the expiration date. I believe with the old paper ones, you had to fly by the expiration date, but the online ones seem to allow you to book past that date.
