I am a teaching assistant for an AP Biology class, and as part of my final grade, I need to do an activity with the students. I am scheduled to do it after the exam, and I know that unless it is interesting, the students will just tune me out. Are there any cool hands-on, interactive, or outdoor activities that would be appropriate to do with an AP Bio class? The content doesn't have to directly relate to the AP curriculum, as long as it is biology related. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!!! I have done all of these after the AP exam and students really get into them.
Took AP Bio two years ago, I'm a senior in High School now. Bioethical arguments (call them debates if you really want) are probably your best bet, so long as you don't have kids screaming at each other. Keep it civil, but let everyone express their opinion. Controversy will breed encaptivation; if a lot of kids are responding to other kids' arguments, you know you've captured the class.
By and large, kids are capable of handling that sort of thing without any trouble. Ask them to read up on certain topics the night before, then argue (debate) them the next day. Just make sure you keep kids from ripping each other's throats out.
Current events will work well (especially these days) so think along the lines of stem cell research and the like.
Best of luck!
