Tactical officers boarded an Air Canada jet earlier this week after receiving a tip that someone on the Ottawa-to-Toronto flight had a weapon, but only came up with a pair of spectacles for their trouble.
Peel Regional Police, the force responsible for security at Pearson International Airport in Toronto, received a call Monday just before 6 p.m. about a passenger concealing a weapon. The call came in just before the plane was scheduled to land, Const. Sam Nulle said yesterday.
"It appears that a concerned passenger saw some type of weapon on another passenger," Nulle said. Police escorted the man off the plane after it landed in Pearson.
Uniformed officers joined the tactical unit in investigating the suspect and learned his "weapon" was merely a pair of eyeglasses.

Not long ago, I flew YYZ-BOS return and discovered in my coat pocket my garage door opener.
Perhaps not ordinarily an issue, however, this is an old Stanley style and the case is long since gone, leaving a small circuit board, push button and nine volt battery.
CATSA staff merely asked what it was and weren't concerned. The staff at Logan were not so casual about it. It made them feel better to take away my battery (despite being able to buy batteries past security).
I also use metal collar stays in my dress shirts, and about 20% of the time, I'll get flagged to secondary inspection if they're in my carry on luggage. bioethics.net :: Article Topics: Bioethics:: between popular heartburn drugs and heart attacks appears to be a false alarm. As we all know, it's remarkably inconsistent.

I can appreciate that we live in difficult times, but it bothers me that anyone who's "concerned" about you can sic the law on you. I'm sure the "suspect" faced a bit of embarrassment at being escorted off the plane for (ultimately) no good reason.
I find it funny that Winnipeg takes my lighter away if it's not in a 1L bag, but, Edmonton doesn't ever say a word if it's in a bag or not..
Anyone know what the point of the bag is even for when carrying a lighter on???
Wow... never considered my eyeglasses a weapon.... :)
