Aeroplan mile donations to EWB matched 10:1

Welcome to:nnkl.com

  • Hey all, I got this email a week or so ago, and though it would be a good way to get rid of the 3,000 Aeroplan miles that I'm never going to use. Let the miles be used for something worthwhile instead of expiring worthless. This is a great charity that is helping make the world a better place, check them out www.ewb.ca.

    Dear Friends,

I wanted to make you aware of a terrific opportunity for you to contribute to Engineers Without Borders in a very high-value way. On May 17th, every mile donated to EWB through our partnership with Aeroplan will be matched roughly 10 to 1 by Aeroplan and their partners (some partners have yet to confirm, so we don't know the exact multiplier yet). This is a great contribution from a super corporate citizen, in celebration of the first anniversary of their Beyond Miles charity program.

This means that if you donate 2,500 miles, which won't get you anywhere, EWB will have a Canadian domestic flight. If you donate 15,000 miles, the equivalent of a short-haul in Canada, EWB will have one flight to Africa. Given that flight costs account for approximately 25% of our total overseas programs budget, this is a very exciting contribution that you will make. (The minimum contribution will be 1,000 miles.)

I will send along a reminder e-mail to you on May 17th, but I wanted to give you a heads-up today because you might need to activate your Aeroplan account in advance (donations can only be made online) or check your balance. You can do both of these on the Aeroplan website at www.aeroplan.com.

I will send along another e-mail on May 17th!

    Best regards,
    George

  • There are some great orgs on the Beyond Miles site - EWB actually has the most miles donated so some of the other orgs are also worth supporting. But it's strange that the multiplication is not clear. Is it really 10 times? Are they waiting to see how many are donated? Strange.

Personally, I will make cash charitable donations over donating miles, because I get a 8-12c value for my points - I think it's unlikely that these groups will get more than 2-3c value. (I hope they don't use ClassicPlus rewards!!!)

  • Dear Friends,

This is a reminder that today May 17th is Aeroplan miles matching day (http://www.aeroplan.com/use_your_miles/donate_miles/charity.do?donationAE=351699699). Every donation of Aeroplan miles through our partnership with them will be matched 8 to 1 by Aeroplan and their partners.

I previously sent an e-mail to make you aware of a terrific opportunity for you to contribute to Engineers Without Borders in a very high-value way. This is a great contribution from a super corporate citizen, in celebration of the first anniversary of their Beyond Miles charity program.

You can make the donation at http://www.aeroplan.com/use_your_miles/donate_miles/charity.do?donationAE=351699699.

Best regards and thank you for your support,
