  • I have a question about ad blocking. I use OP 2.1.292.3816 with Ad content blocking enabled. Now I have www.abnamro.nl in the trusted sites but it still gets blocks ads. It also is mentioned in the log file. When I disable ad content blocking the page is 100%.

  • what about in active content >properties>exclusions> enable all just for www.abnamro.nl and does that work for you cause it doesnt work for me.

I don't see why this should have anything to do with it by the way. Like I mentioned earlier when I disable "block ad conent containing specific keywords'' in the Ads plugin the pages have ads. When I enable and put sites in the trusted zone the ads are stiil gone.

  • Everything is enabled in the active content plugin. Because that is another thing I ran into. I frequently visit http://start.cdfreaks.com/ and when I disable javascript and popup in the default rules and make an exclusion for this site that doesn't work either. There still is nothing left of the page so now I work the other way around enabling everything in default rules and make exclusions for sites I want things disabled. That works.
Now I tried some other sites like http://www.3dgamers.com/ and made it trusted site in adblocking and it's the same problem. Only disabling block ad content seems to help.

  • With all the problems I am having with version 2.1 build (307) of Outpost Pro I can get to your site using Mozilla 1.6.

That's will all active content active, well the cookie bug is still a major problem with OP21 build (307), so I use Mozilla cookie manager to prompt me before I load anything onto my system for security reasons you know...

    Doesn't work for me either.

Paranoid said: If a site is added to the Ad-filter's Trusted list, then no filtering should take place at all.

I know it shouldn't but I think it does. And to me it seems the same goes for the active content plugin exclusion list. When I add cdfreaks to that list it still blocks everything that is disabled in the default settings.

Paranoid, can I ask what your default settings are in the active content plugin?

  • Adding it to the Trusted Sites list did stop ad blocking when I tried it (did you spell the domain correctly)? Do you have any other software that does ad-blocking also?

  • I had also reported this several weeks ago to Agnitum. They are currently working on it.

  • I use IE6.0.2800 and I now tried several other sites but the trusted list is not fully working. Here is what I found out:

Add blocking disabled ==> full page
Add blocking enabled ==> page without adds only text AD (enabled in replace add...)
Add blocking enabled ==> page in trusted list ==> page without adds but the text AD is also gone. When I hover over the page the adds are there, just not visible. Log file says they are still blocked.

Yes, I tried Ctrl+F5 and cache cleaning. Does anybody know on wich webpages betatesters and agnitum have tested this add blocking bussiness so I can try it too.

  • I too thought I had a problem with the exclusions tab list in the ActiveContent plug-in.

I had entered the appropriate URL as listed in the log and forced a refresh () but the link was still blocked. If I stopped the plug-in it would work. I tried several variations of the URL (include "HTTP", etc.) but no help.

I submitted a bug report to Agnitum and they did respond with the suggestion to flush the cache. Since my settings flush the IE cache when I shutdown IE, I revisited the site and it works fine.

This doesn't really make sense if you think it through since the site worked with the plug-in stopped (without a cache flush) and immediately blocked the site with the plug-in started, but who knows?

I suspect that a forced refresh may not be as effective as a cache flush. Now your mileage may vary, and I'll be watching this plug-in more carefully in the future, but it's worth a try for you guys.

  • what about the ads that have the adstring banners in them so even if you have them in allowed zone the adplugin is still doing what its was built to do.

do you have this still in your list and if you take it out then you will get all the ads you want lol.

from the adblocking pluginlog, i put the same whole url into the trusted sites list and it still blocked it with two different browsers, its awesome . :)

  • Enybody?

  • sorry i was still in my last post , but it still blocks the site regardless. :)

i wiped out my temp internet files and tried two different browsers, lol.

also blocked by this too i just found in my active contet log...

  • Did some more digging and it would appear that the Trusted list feature does not seem to work properly. Apologies for my earlier statements - I have 3 ad-blocking measures in place (Outpost, Proxomitron and hosts file) and had actually disabled the ad-filter completely to see if I could get an ad to load.

I have raised a bug report on this but would suggest that you also report it to Agnitum (www.agnitum.com/support/supportform.html) if you wish to see this fixed.

I know, tried that one too and that works but it's not about wanting the ads so much, its just that outpost doesn't work like it should. That's the problem.

Check Adware and Under-Wear - The Definitive Guide (http://www.sitepoint.com/article/888) for more examples of online nastiness. If you allow everything and then visit such a site, then you are going to get your system messed up. Adding Eric's AGNIS (http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~ehowes/resource.htm#Outpost) list to the Ad-Filter will help here since it does include known spyware/malware pushers but you have new ones coming out all the time. And using Internet Explorer (horribly insecure by default) makes this more serious since it uses ActiveX which, unlike Java, has no restrictions on what it can do on your system (delete files, reboot Windows, etc).

There is one other possibility, did you clear your browser cache before reloading or do a "forced reload" (Ctrl-F5 or Shift+Refresh). This is usually needed when changing Active Content settings to stop the browser from reusing previously loaded (and blocked) content.

Thanks for the warning, I'm going to have a look at it.

Tried Ctrl-F5, nothing. Cleaned the cache with Supercleaner, nothing.
How is it possible it works for you and not for me, we both use OP 2.1.292.3816 ? Seems I have another unusual problem like the event-id:1517. That's still there too.

I don't know how you do it but it doesn't work for me. Has it something to do with IE6 maybe?

  • Thanks paranoid. I will fill in the bugreport.

No other ad-blocking software. When I disable outpost block ad content the page is 100%. Then I think I'm doing something wrong. Copy and paste doesn't work so in Site name: I typed www.abnamro.nl . How did you do it paranoid?

  • Installed OP2.1.297. The trusted list issue should be solved in the ads plugin. But I still can't get this site http://www.abnamro.nl/nl/index.html working. When I disable adsplugin I've got ads, when I enable plugin and put this site ( also tried www.abnamro.nl ) in the trusted list : no ads.
