got into HKG 2 hours ago on AC15. (BTW, the United lounge in HKG has 2 internet PC's right at the back of the lounge)
good : standing there during checkin in YYZ, in the SE queue.. an AC staff member came over and asked if I was SE, then took me over and opened up a desk to check me in.
- smooth ride.
bad : the new plane had a gym sock smell during take off and landing.I was in the mini J section
- the 'lie flat' seats are atrocious. the angle is way too steep for comfort and you end up getting into a fetus position and using your legs to brace against the side of the seat just to keep from sliding. full flat was not comfy so ended up being in a similar position to the old J class seats . .at least you didnt slide. the middle 'bulge' sticks into your back as well when you are in the 'flat' position. the seats are too narrow as well.
- food was bad. i had the sole with noodles. bad choice. the sole had no taste whatsoever.
- got the small amenity kit (the day one).. i've always gotten the full bag on the YVR-HKG routes. wondering if AC is saving money here.
- the washroom had no moisturiser. there usually is in J class bogs.

I have used PIA, EK and Gulf Air. Emirates is by far the better choice .. however, I hear the new 777's PIA flies YYZ-KHI are very good with personal videoscreens and lie-flat seats in J class.
PIA is good in the air but the problem is with ground staff. Due to rampant corruption, your re-confirmed seats suddenly 'disappear' or get 'cancelled' when you show up to check in. Staff and friends of the check in staff get checked in while passengers are told that the flight is 'oversold'. thats why PIA is a risky endeavour. I have had to use my own inside connections to get on a couple of times when I gt bumped like that.
This may sound far-fetched right now, but in AC's analyst presentations, they showcase possible future nonstop destinations and KHI is one. This wouldn't happen for a few years, I suppose (no aircraft available right now), but would an AC nonstop be a popular choice to KHI, or are the marketing people insane? Obviously, KHI is not DEL, and there is little Canadian tourism to PK like there is to Indian, but KHI is also not well served from North America right now and the Pakistani-Canadian community is large and becoming quite prosperous. Can I infer from your user name that you are from or have family or other ties in KHI?
If so, do you visit there? How do you get there? By the PIA flight, or do you go through Europe (British, Swiss), the Gulf (Gulf Air, Emirates), or the long way around (Cathay via HKG, etc.)?
I ask because I have Pakistani connections who have a wide range of views about PIA and travelling to/from PK. One of my step-daughter's best friends is from Lahore, and refuses to fly PIA. She last went home via AC to London, then Gulf Air (one-stop between LHR and LHE). Another time she flew KLM to AMS and thence to Dubai, and then EK to LHE. And some of the fares are gross. I find it fascinating.

oh shoot, that's where I left 'em :D I took them off after not taking a shower for a week, and I wanted to offend the pax beside me :D
I agree that the lie flats suck in lie flat position (people are initially under the notion that it is a 180 degree lie flat, when in reality it's like a ski slope). Other than that, I kinda like them, but that's just me.
I will get my first chance to try these seats next week, going to DEL. However its interesting these new seats were the reason my friends company bailed to UA.... They thought the seats were so bad they gave up on AC and switched airlines....
How can AC do no consumer testing before coming out with this seat?

I am going to be taking AC 15 in a month and I chose it over going thru YVR partly because I had heard so much about the 345!! Well, it would be still be nice not to have to stop or change in YVR..
I am booked in the back and am hoping to upgrade to up front but all the C class are already gone, so it ould have to be an upgrade at the gate I guess. Was the J class FULL on your flight!!
Hope that at least the food is better on your return flight...
I will be taking AC15 on the 21st of October. I hope I have a better experience than you. I needed it to get an earlier connection to SIN rather than the later routing through YVR.
I hope it is worth it! Would you recommend the main cabin in J or the mini cabin?
