In a couple of days I will be singing a ballad called 'Wandering the
King's Highway' at a concert. It is a robust and tuneful British song
from what is likely to be the 1920s/30s. It was written by Leslie
Coward. I would like to say something about this composer (the
concert is a tribute to the
composers) - but the usual Google (and MetaCrawler) searches were unrevealing.
Who was Leslie Coward and what are some of the details about his life and career? Dear haplotype-ga,
He may be a very obscure composer. I have searched the back issues of
the Times newspaper for his obituary, news articles, or references to
this song without any luck. The score appears in the British Library's
catalogue as first published in 1935. It is under the name Coward L.
There are later compositions by a Leslie Coward, 1940 - 1964, but I do
not know if they are the same person. I also searched on these without
any luck.
Perhaps another researcher may be more succesful.
