On the good side of a 777 - 763 downgrade RDU-LHR - Page 2 :: On the good side of a 777 - 763 downgrade RDU-LHR American AAdvantage. http://www.flyertalk.com/forums/showthread.php?p=10587642&highlight=HOME | My GF and I booked seperate flights to LHR both on the listed 77E aircraft.
We wanted specifically to fly the new 777.
I was recently notified my flight was downgraded to a 343 and just found out the my GF's was as well. (different days of the week)
I am aware that equipment changes are a reality of flying but it is very frustrating when our goal was to fly the 777.
Andrew can you offer any thought on this?

I don't believe that AC guaranteed you a flight on a 777. I believe they guaranteed to transport you to your destination. You were foolish enough to buy a ticket in the hopes of traveling on the only 777 AC currently operates despite the numerous warnings here that specific acft are only really assigned to a particular flight 24-48 hours before departure. Live and learn.
This has been discussed in other posts. What do you expect ? There is only one plane and the airline has to prioritize based on it's needs and last minute changes. Maybe better luck next time or perhaps do not set your goals too high. Dow plummets record 777 as financial rescue fails:: Sep 29, 2008 The Dow Jones industrial average lost 777 points Monday, .. So you're upset that not only did they change the plane, but that they gave you plenty of warning?
No, I am upset that the listed new 777 was changed to a tiring 343 in both instances.

Given a choice would you pick one over the other?

Thank you for the information Nothwich. I must have missed the 24/48 hour equipment assignment proviso. My error. So why do they list a plane type at all?

I understand your frustration & disappointment but unfortunately with only 1 77W at this point (with another one coming soon), some changes have to be made to meet operational requirements such as scheduled maintenance & training. As we're getting more 777s in the coming months, such changes should be less frequent.
Thanks Andrew, I was mostly expressing frusatration but will book another flight in J as the fleet grows and the 777 equipment becomes less likely to change.

Specific aircraft FINS are assigned then, not aircraft type. Big difference.
Andrew, acft type changes while not as numerous as fin changes happen on a regular basis, do they not?
When only one aircraft is in the fleet, it is prudent to assume that changes might occur.
The 777 is a one of a kind for the moment and to assume that it will be flying a particular flight number on a particular route is being quite optimistic. ;)

Not on a regular basis unless mechanical and there isn't the same type available. And with the B777 its the first and is sometimes required also for training so maybe more frequent.

I guess that what I expected was the likleyhood that we would fly on a 777. At least one of the two listed 777 flights. These were changed several weeks out and obviously not last minute changes.
