Nasty storms lining up in western New Jersey now according to Weather Underground radar, and I figure my area (New York City, Hoboken) will get hammered within a half-hour. Yeah...same here on LI...though not as severe. I saw some lightning as they approached but we got no rain either. The marine air won once again. :(
Interesting...OKX issued a special marine warning when they thunderstorms have died. The storms have died but the winds remain. First time I have ever seen this before, at least for the OKX WFO. That's interesting, but doesn't surprise me. When a 40,000 ft high column of hot air collapses it generates a LOT of wind. The outflow gust front just blasted through New Haven and one gust just about made my whole apartment shake - I heard things being knocked off shelves in the next unit over, it was pretty intense. But so far there's been no precip except for a few scattered windblown raindrops, and I've seen/heard no lightning or thunder, except for way in the distance.
My area is gotten warned for severe thunderstorms, and I'm seeing lightning in the skies. Time to get off line!
The line of storms about to hit NYC are holding up but once they move east of the city, they will probably fall apart. The temps on LI are in the low 80s and upper 70s. The SBCAPE are <500 J/Kg, but the MLCAPES/MUCAPES are both >1000 J/Kg, so maybe they might hold together for a little bit. Though they might become more elevated, which would reduce the high wind threat.
