I've just put it up. I did it myself and I don't know HTML, so it looks like a ballet danced by Hell's Angels, but if you can get past that, there are a couple of loopholes in UA excursions ex-USA to Europe that will amuse a lot of you. I've shown how it is possible to do 3 airlines, for example, eastbound SFO-LHR. I didn't put up the info originating London, but similar itins are possible with the exception that ex-LON, you can't backtrack to continental Europe on UA. Pass this on to your travel agent friends please.

I suspect the fare jumps because you are backtracking, heading up to Canada and back into the US. You would have to continue on to LHR from YYZ to keep that fare, though you might also get it back if you headed to BOS or JFK/EWR and then onto LHR. Or you could drop the YYZ segments, and just go to ORD and then IAD, your fare might also remain constant. And with the YYZ routing you may have exceeded the 25% overage you are allowed from the base LHR-SFO. I'm not a tarrif expert, but this strikes me as the rationale for the change.
Hey Guru,
It's Boa! How funny I was going to post your website for the flyertalk community but you beat me too it...GOOD JOB!
I have not haunted this board for ages and usually post on OUR OTHER board..lol

Tchau,

Join AC's Aeroplan. They are the easiest and they give credit for all paid segments with all members. Go to www.aeroplan.com (http://www.aeroplan.com) and register there.
fareguru, thanks for the site. If I'm not a member in any of the S.A. airlines, which one would you recommend I join?
Great work ! Well done ! Congrats !
May I add that Varig's promo allows all fares and runs until Dec.31st making it the easiest to qualify...

Good stuff on the website, especially the eligible routings.
But I would not recommend joining Aeroplan for this promotion. While the requirements for credits are pretty straight forward (unlike UAs), Aeroplan's customer service is pretty bad. Standard wait times to do an award booking over the phone is about 30 minutes (hold this long to get an agent). You can book it on the web too, but the website only allows simple roundtrips, no open-jaws, stopovers, awards on other airlines, etc.
I've heard that LH's Miles & More may be a good choice.
Thanks for this site Fare Guru! I hadn't thought of routing an SFO-LHR trip through YYZ to get the AC metal segment...
However, when I try to set up a routing similar to the one on your site I get a fare basis change and a big jump in price (using ual.com). Maybe you or someone else here can explain why...
First off I priced the roundtrip SFO-LHR, ex SFO 6/17 return 6/23. Prices out at 1422.06 using fare basis BHXGBAP.
So then I try to use the multi-city option to route this trip as follows:
SFO ORD 6/17 11.20pm 5.17am
ORD YYZ 6/18 8.05am 10.41am
YYZ IAD 6/17 1.15pm 2.40pm (op by AC)
IAD LHR 6/17 5.55pm 5.55am
LHR SFO 6/23 2.45pm 5.40pm
I use the expert mode on ual.com so I see that every leg shows B9, so I expect, if the routing is valid, to also get BHXGBAP at 1422.06 -- but it prices at 2178.78 using fare code M12. Any ideas why it jumps like this? Is the routing via YYZ not valid for BHXGBAP? Where can you even see the routings? (All I can find on ual.com is the fare rules which just says the transatlantic sector has to be on UA or BD)
Sorry for all the questions, I'm new to this creative routing technique http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Well done Fareguru! You have made an excellent accurate site with no frills. You really have your finger on the pulse of good promotions and do-able routes.

Might I suggest you also post this on the Star Alliance forum to get wider coverage

If it is to be, it is up to me
Don't forget that the Varig promotion, while giving you until the end of the year to get your 5 airlines, will not award the bonus until their promotion is over which means not until at least Jan 1, 2003.
Flying Scotsman, I can't help today. I'm on vacation and am writing from an internet cafe in Grand Forks, BC. My home computer has Apollo/Galileo. I'll examine these sites that you guys use online if you tell me what they are and I'll give you a comparative analysis of what they can and cannot do vs Apollo and try to suggest a way around their limitations. That will be after the 13th.
thanks!
Aw, shucks, I want to thank the academy ...from an internet cafe in Kaslo, BC, one of the 10 prettiest towns in Canada accroding to Harrowsmith Magazine.
About the swing into YYZ, the only thing there that influences the fare is the Canadian tax AFAIK.
Please, Gentlemen, tell me about how to acces ual.com expert mode and the others tht you use so that I can do the comparison vs Apollo/Galileo.
Hey, boaviagem, fancy meeting you here. Finally we have some folks that are on similar levels.
Later...
