I think the answer is no, but I figured I would ask the experts here just in case (I also did a search, but couldn't find the answer).
Can the $50 companion e-cert (from the AS Mastercard) be used for an open jaw itinerary? (In particular, I want to use it for YVR-PVR, PVR-LAS). The back of the cert says it can be used for "return" and "one-way" trips, which is why I'm suspecting they won't allow it for this.
Thanks.
As a test I also looked to book PDX-MCO then WAS-PDX. If I selected a trip that included a leg on AA, the e-cert box did not appear. If I selected a trip on all AS/QX metal - the e-cert box did appear.
I believe the restriction to AS/QX metal is plainly noted in the terms of all e-certificates.
Mike
you are very high maintenance today ;)
Put it on hold, and PM me your record locator. I'll see if the fare can be forced.
According to my boyfriend, I'm high maintenance EVERY day! :p
Locator on the way in a PM. Thanks again!
Follow-up question regarding the $50 companion cert:
If I use it in conjunction with a refundable ticket (say in F), and I later cancel that ticket, does the e-cert become usable again, or is dead?
Interesting that the e-certificate box has disappeared on the "Multi-City" page. This is not a good sign.
Thanks all. I now see that there's a place to enter the e-cert AFTER making a complex itinerary, rather than before (as it's done for a round-trip or a one-way). Unfortunately, I've now discovered that there's no way to fly PVR-LAS on AS metal without an overnight stop-over, so that kills that itinerary idea :-(.
Yes you can do that without losing the e-cert
Thanks again missydarlin!
Thanks Mike. Just to confirm, I assume it's ok to change things like dates and times, so long as the ticket itself isn't refunded?
Follow-up question.
New plan is to book a multi-leg ticket in F with the companion cert with the following itinerary:
YVR-PVR
PVR-SFO
SFO-YVR
Currently, there is no First Class inventory available for the PVR-SFO leg. (Actually, there's one seat, but I need two of course).
If I purchase the ticket with all legs in F except for the PVR-SFO leg (which will be full-flex), if F inventory opens up, will I be able to switch that leg to F and pay the difference without losing the e-cert?
Thanks again.

that is correct
I was successful using my companion coupon for open jaw travel. GEG-MIA, EWR-GEG this December. I couldn't book it on the website, so I had to call in and speak with an agent. I asked them to waive the booking fee, since the website wouldn't do what I wanted, and they said no problem. (I think, though, that they misinterpreted me and thought the website was down/unavailable).
if its a forced overnight stopover, they will allow you to book it through the reservations line with your companion cert

Thanks missydarlin. I think I'm actually able to book the itins with an overnight stopover online -- it was just that I didn't WANT to do the overnight.
(I've since discovered that there are same-day itins on AS metal, just not on the date I want to fly)
I had no problems using the companion ticket: SEA-DCA and MIA-SEA.
In fact, I booked the flight last summer for this past April, even though it said travel must be complete by Jan 31, but we had no trouble at all.

Hmm, now I have another problem.
Because the PVR-SFO leg isn't available in F, it is pricing out the two return legs (PVR-SFO in Y & SFO-YVR in F) as two separate flights, instead of as PVR-YVR with a stop-over.
Since the difference between full-Y and F isn't very much, I don't mind paying for F for the PVR-SFO leg even though there isn't a seat available. I can't figure out a way to do this on-line though. If I put a hold on the itinerary, would a phone agent be able to force the proper pricing?
Interesting that the e-certificate box has disappeared on the "Multi-City" page. This is not a good sign.
This morning I booked an open-jaw PDX-FAI ANC-PDX using a BoA $50 companion online. The e-cert box appears as usual.

If you claim a refund on the tickets, the e-cert dies.
