In my experience, 30 minutes for a domestic connection in Miami is pushing it. For international connections, 30 minutes is WAYYY too short. Immigration always seems to be very busy in Miami, though having an INS PortPass enables you to cut a lot of time off the process. Note that AA will *not* put you up for the night if you miss a connection due to an illegal connection. And as others have stated, AA.com doesn't always consider minimum connection times, etc.
Thanks for all the replies. Actually, I wouldn't mind missing the connection and getting a free overnight att AA's expense in MIA. However, I'm not flying on this itinerary any more (instead probably going CGD-JFK-EZE) for $170 and 14,400 more miles.
I've made connections in 30 minutes in MIA. I find that it's an easy airport to navigate, and if one of your gates isn't in a Satellite building, then you won't have to worry about going through security while making your connection. Just pray that your flight to MIA doesn't get delayed. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
If your connection of 45 minutes is the one given to you by the Res system, ie it is a "legal" connection, then I would not worry too much.
AA will allow even shorter connections for people arriving off American Eagle from the Bahamas and connecting internationally, if need be they will lay on a special bus on the apron and take you directly to your aircraft.
AA have a good record of prioritising connecting pax at MIA, reminds me of the underlying core reasons I fly AA :
- On time record
- No lost baggage
- Ease of connections
At the end of the day, the elite privileges and MRTC/B are gravy, getting there on time with minimum hassle is not to be overlooked !
Hate to be a spoilsport, but I'd call a 45-minute connection iffy. Any delays at all and you're cutting it awfully close. It never seems to fail that I'm arriving at the far end of Terminal D and need to get to the far end of Terminal E! Picture me listening intently and hopefully as the FA announces the arrival gate and connecting info, only to moan in despair as this happens time after time! ;-)
From experience, I'm more comfortable with 60-70 minutes between flights at MIA. Distances between gates can be vast, and crowding often slows pedestrians inside the terminal.
