| $289 fares on Northwest from SFO to HKG/SIN | | Published by: anonym 2009-01-07 |
| | Unlike SQ, Northwest is offering the same cheap fares that earn mileage in K class. No min stay and they have plenty of seats on most days. Must return by the 20th of July.
CX, SQ, and UA are also offering this price but CX and SQ do not let you earn any miles.

Jiffy-I'm going from SIN to DPS (Bali)in August. What is zuji? Sounds like you got a great deal.
As luck would have it, I will be in SF from 16-20 July, so I can just slide this trip in. I'll get to see Singapore for 1 day, gain some status miles and enough total miles for a free trip in the US. Pretty great. Of course, I had to give up my plan for a leisurely drive down Hwy 1. But I'll get back to SF in time for Lindy in the Park on Sunday.
tcook052, if you are going, get in touch with me via email before you ticket, or if I can find your card and remember to, I'll give you a call tomorrow.
Anyone else by chance booking 07/11-07/13 to SIN?. I just reserved the transit hotel for the 5+ hour layover, but wouldn't mind doing the night in the terminal if there is anyone who want's to hang out http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
I just booked the SIN deal but out of northern michigan it's $700. Still a good deal from here. 7/3 - 7/7 if anyone wants to meet up in SIN with like minds!!
Were you able to get this fare from DCA, or are you taking a separate flight to SFO?

Altaflyer, YGM.
What routing is allowed, ie. could we go through DTW or HNL do we have to go through SEA.

Da*n it! There's now a 6 day minimum stay... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
I've got one, but I was getting pumped up to book a few more runs...
(just saw Viajero Joven posted this in NW as well)

Definitely the best choice. 500 people accounted for dead in 6 months is a blip on the radar compared to the 3000 who die daily from malaria. You should not encounter any problems for either in Singapore.
Then again, the chances of a car accident in US are 1000s times more likely so you better drive carefully to the airport?!? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

If you miss the SFO-SEA segment and attempt to join the party at SEA, you will be in for a rude surprise because NW will cancel your remaining itinerary and force you to buy a new ticket, priced from SEA. So definitely don't do that, gaugeguy.
What you can do is pick up a cheap SEA-SFO ticket (or SEA-OAK using WN). You could even fly one-way SEA-SFO/OAK and plan on getting off the plane in SEA on the return from Asia(using only carry-on luggage, of course), forgoing the remaining SEA-SFO flight. You'll lose the mileage for that last segment, but there will be no other repercussions from NW.

This is so tempting as a really inexpensive way to maintain elite status and get loads of miles, but I remember how painful this was to do multiple runs from SFO-SIN two summers ago when United had the $300 SIN-SFO fares.
I've seen tons of suggestions & previous threads for inexpensive hotels, ground transportation, recommended sights for first time visitors, etc...
Can anyone summarize, or point me to good threads? For Hong Kong I went to the Hong Kong section of FlyerTalk Travel and read selected threads based on subject titles. (Now I see the importance of FCTSTY's quest in life) http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
This one seemed the best What to do overnight in HKG? (http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttravel_forum/Forum42/HTML/000034.html)
Also went to frommers.com and read their Attractions - Suggested Itineraries - If You Have 1 Day-- (http://www.frommers.com/destinations/hongkong/0078020865.html) which seemed to correlate very will with the ft thread.

I spent the day trying to decide whether or not to do one of these. This evening, the fare dropped to $259, so I went for it. SFO-SIN-SFO for $320 all incl.
Departing 7/11, returning 7/16.

Or ORD even! We need a good fare like this from the middle states. If I route through SFO, I'm at $600+

MrsOpus and I will be in SIN during your stay. Returning on 7/23. Will be at the Conrad after a Singapore Hilton stay.
BTW: Point Stretchers for Hilton are 21000 per night at the Conrad. We got a SUN, MON, TUE. Singapore Hilton is S$140, but no point stretchers are available. There are definitely cheaper options such as Priceline previously mentioned.

www.zuji.com (http://www.zuji.com) is a travel portal (operate from a few Asian countris, and deliver in USA as well). Have yet to receive my ticket. heard on Ftalk, people seem to be happy. They beat all the other potals like orbitz, expedia etc. for my SIN-DPS ticket.
Would love to hook up though I will be on a dive boat Aug.12-17

Funny but right. BTW, I married AS air ex YEG to get me to SFO and this special ex SFO to SIN in July and total CAD 796.13 was the result. I can resist everything except temptation. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Actually, this pratice is called hidden-city ticketing and is prohibitied by Northwest's Contract of Carriage. Whether they enforce it is another issue.
The most common way NW will enforce hidden city ticketing is by refusing to post miles for any of the flights youve flown while this enforcement isnt common, it isnt rare either.
Also, be careful about ripping off your baggage tags especially at those airports that require everybody to recheck their bags (and those disembarking at that airport pick it up on the outside carrousel).

You can do it with checked luggage. If coming on the NRT-SEA flight, just rip off the bag tag after customs and go home.
If coming in on say, HNL-SEA, a domestic US flight, just book SEA-SFO for the next day (24 hour maximum allowed for the transfer). The bags will only be tagged for SEA for the day.

I just realized that I'll get another 2,500 miles through International E-Ticket, E-Service Center International check-in and nwa.com purchase bonuses. That's 1.3c/mile. Neat.
Well, I am on this band wagon too. Just bought SFO-SIN Aug. 9, SIN-SFO Aug. 18 for US 317 (all incl.), got SIN-DPS return through zuji for US 235 (incl US delivery charges). get to dive Komodo liveaboard, earn miles too. Can't get better than that. Thanks Ftalkers for the tips.
Will be happy to buy any Ftalker drink during SIN layover.
Booked Fri 7/11 - Tue 7/15 SFO-NRT-HKG $359.66 - $150 TCV = $209.66
Also Fri 7/18 - Tue 7/22 SFO-NRT-SIN $357.58 - $106 MCO = $207.58
30,790 status miles (69,277 platinum bonus)
for $417.24. Didn't try any fancy routings.

It's my first time to both places, and I'll
have 2 days, 2 nights (probably camp the last night in the airports).
Anyone in SIN or HKG on those days?
Thanks.
Mitchell
P.S. I'd be happy to bring anyone into the President's Club or WorldClub who's flying on those days.

Going to SIN and have res. on NW on hold. I may stay a night or two and change the return. I can't find the cost of gound transport to and from the central city. Also any suggestions for inexpensive lodging?
Thanks
Herman
Thanks for the posting Tango!
I missed the $480 (all in) fare a couple months ago and never dreamed I would get to use my NW $300 voucher on a $357(all in) SIN run! YES!
I am going 7/7 returning 7/9 with a 30hour layover. Anyone else?

I'm actually leaving straight from DCA on the $650ish fare that's valid out of DCA. It says 6 day minimum stay, but prices fine without.

NW Routing:
ROUTING 110 FROM SFO-AS/NW-SEA-
OR FROM SFO-NW-LAX-
OR FROM SFO-
TO NW-HNL-NW-OSA/NGO-NW-TYO-NW-
HKG*
OR TO NW-HNL-NW-TYO-NW-HKG*
OR TO NW-HNL-NW-OGG/LIH/KOA-NW-OSA/
NGO-NW-TYO-NW-HKG*
And so yes HNL works. There is discussion on the NW fare in this thread as well:
