I have the recording of "Tunnel of Love",
where Mark Knopfler is singing only, but I have read there was an
earlier recording, where another band member of Dire Straits (perhaps
Hal Lindes) also sang the song and played guitar (in addition to Mark
playing guitar). Do
you know where I can find the earlier recording?
Thanks.
It's not John Illsley.

Hello vagal32-ga,
Perhaps the version of the song that you are looking for is the one
that appears on the 1995 Dire Straits CD ?Live at the BBC?.
You can hear a clip of this live version at the link below.

?Of the two songs included that are not from their first album, one is
an obsurity called "What's the Matter Baby" and the other is an early
version of "Tunnle of Love," that wouldn't make its studio debut until
the band's third album, "Making Movies."

?An archival live release came in 1995 called Live At The BBC. It
featured a July 1978 performance by the original lineup and one song
from January 1981 with Alan Clark and Hal Lindes in place of David
Knopfler.?

Could it be John Illsley?
It probably is the "Live at BBC" where there is an older recording on
the record. The link you sent just has music, so I can't hear if Mark
or Hal are singing. I have ordered the CD, so I will find out when it
arrives next week.
Thanks for your help
