Looks like initiation is confirmed to be underway within tor-watch no. 509 across parts of NW Iowa and into eastern Nebraska. Storms are firing as far south as Wahoo, Nebraska (west of Omaha).
Other storms are initiating near Sioux City and points north to the Minnesota line.
This nowcast thread will cover storm location, motion, intensity and behavior within the watch areas.

06/11/2008 SALINE KS EMERGENCY MNGR
TORNADO CAUSED DAMAGE JUST EAST OF I-135 ON WATERWELL RD.
Mobile home reported destroyed at that location.
Damage reported at the Phillips lightbulb plant, a motel being built and a nursing home now short a roof. Widespread street flooding reported in Salina.
Rescue crews trying to clear the area before the next storm from the West rolls in.
Thanks, Mike.
And the debris ball over Tuttle Creek Blvd is a very bad sign.
the 401 and 405 UTC volume scans are very sobering indeed... it sure looks like a debris echo to me, which perfectly matches the tight TVS couplet. You could track that right across town, and get an idea which part of manhattan received the brunt of damage... especially since Manhattan is only 20nm from KTWX 88D. There is still a block or two or three degree of error, but man, at least some of KSU campus had to have received substantial damage. I don't know how sprawled out the campus is :(

What appears to be a debris ball is on the 0405Z TOP -88D tilt 1 on the east side of Manhattan near Tuttle Creek Blvd.
Impressive hook near Claflin, KS at the moment ... after passing over Hoisington. NWS reports a tornado very near Hoisington.
EDIT1: TOR 2 mi. NE of Claflin. TOR WRNG Ellsworth Co., moving east at 50 mph.
Tornado heading into Manhantan tornado on the ground.
EDIT: Tornado is hitting Manhantan NOW tornado live on tower cam www.KTKA.com (http://www.KTKA.com) the camera was just by the tornado.
I don't know how sprawled out the campus is :(
If you can match it up with your mapping, campus runs from Kimball Ave south to Anderson/Bluemont...from College Ave east to North Manhattan Avenue.
Strong circulation near Wetmore (WIBW Topeka). Seems to be holding together quite well. More and more damage being reported in Manhattan.
Strong rotation has been reported as a tornado on the ground near Bennington, just outside Omaha, NE.
Kenny Allen and Kory Hartman are OK! They tried getting out of the way of a Rain Wrapped tornado and took a direct hit. There is debris everywhere! They were streamed live on WOWT TV in Omaha
That hook echo over Cedar Creek is incredible as well as the storm relative velocity showing a nice couplet. Bellevue is really under the gun in the next few minutes
Wow, Soldier, KS looks to be right in the path of an amazing couplet. Does not look good for them.
Matt and I are on the storm southeast of Beloit right now. Driving in hail right now and witnessed a wall cloud south of Beloit about 15 min ago. Check out our stream at http://thestormreport.com/livetrack.php/
I can be confusing :) 88D seemed to indicate that there may be a somewhat narrow, but very destructive path through the heart of manhattan from southwest to northeast... this is purely from 88D superres velocity interpretation. The velocity signature didn't appear to be the magnitude of something like a Greensburg signature, thankfully... in other words, I don't think we'll see a 1.7 mile wide path of devastation... but 0.5 miles is 0.5 miles too much anyway... The 88D velocity couplet couldn't have taken a worse track, right through town :( (this is per Tiger roads stree level map + superres TWX velocity data).
Thanks, Mike.
And the debris ball over Tuttle Creek Blvd is a very bad sign.
Looks to me like the tornado is approaching K-99 near Louisville.
Mike U.: Can you clarify your post?
I wasn't sure exactly what you wanted me to clarify, maybe the "final stages of the tornado" part? It looks like the K-99 near Louisville TVS developed after the Ogden-Manhattan tornado dissipated. I think the northwest of Louisville circulation is new after Manhattan, in other words it cycled. That's my initial interpretation of the 88D vel data.
The sirens have subsided in Western Douglas county. Seems like we dodged a bullet. We may have lost a small tree in our front yard. It's rather hunched over.
Tornado SW of Salina NOW baseball hail west of Salina NOW! 138 MPH shear heading into SW side of town NOW!!!
Im wondering if there has been anything seen actually on the ground with the Salina storm....looks like it may be in a recycle phase or rain wrapped right now. Anyone have any live feeds from TV stations that cover this area? Perhaps some severestudios chasers are on this altho their cams would be too dark to view.
I would not be surprised to see a new tornado threat SW of Salina in the next hour or so as the cell to the SW tracks slightly South of where the first cell passed. Area already has meso markers and inflow noth like the Salina storm had earlier and then became a hooked beast.
Media possibly reporting 30 to 40 injuries at the Little Sioux Boy Scout ranch with an all-out emergency response requested. This is in northwest Iowa, between Little Sioux and Blencoe.
A friend of mine is telling me that buildings are destroyed and people are trapped just west of campus. The campus may have been grazed, but not directly hit. Still sounds like a very, very bad situation. :(
Update: Movie theater destroyed......Toyota dealership hit.....people trapped with a gas leak and fire nearby.
My virtual target of Fremont is looking beautiful right now with a cell firing directly SW of it and already severe warned. With quick storm motions I would start cheating downstream a bit. I think any storm that fires in this area will start to develop tornado potential in the Fremont to Tekamah corridor and then once it hits Tekamah area it should be a well developed tornadic supercell so long as it stays discrete. I would hedge my bets and probably wait on the storm closer to Tekamah. Even if that cell that just formed dies out, which it very well might, a new cell will likely develop behind it.
The same hook is near Kanopolis Lake moving toward Assaria along Interstate 135 in Saline Co., south of Salina, KS.
Report of a tornado near Kanopolis.
EDIT1: TOR for Saline Co.
EDIT2: TOAs 8:56 at Lindsborg (or just north) and 9:03pm Assaria per KWCH TV..

TORNADO CAUSED DAMAGE JUST EAST OF I-135 ON WATERWELL RD.
This long lived tornado appeared to be in its final stages, per 88D velocity data, as it was going through Manhattan. The core damage track *might* be somewhat narrow, but that's not to say that major, major damage has just occurred through the center of town, including the campus of KSU. I experienced similar anxiety watching this thing on superres GRLevel2 at shortly after 11pm...as I did at 9:50pm 5/4/07. From the looks of it, I'd say Manhattan was lucky it wasn't this tornado that came to town instead of the one that did. The current couplet indicates a likely wedge completely buried in precip...fortunately it's out in the middle of nowhere and appears to be threading the needle between Havensville and Soldier right now.
**EDIT**
Based on the latest scan it looks to have wobbled slightly to the right...Soldier may have taken a direct hit.
Rotation indicated on ICT -88D near Lindsborg from time to time.
Possible tornado reported near Chalco, which is in southern Omaha metro area.

Tornado SW of Salina NOW baseball hail west of Salina NOW! 138 MPH shear heading into SW side of town NOW!!!
EDIT: Tornado has hit Salina with confirmed damage at a nursing home. Other reports are now coming in.
Have been on a persistant wall cloud on the tail end charlie in nw barton co/ rush co. for abou 15 minutes. Cool structure but no real rotation to speak of currently.
Hook has gotten better defined near Ogden 0342Z. Headed for Manhattan (KSU) and St. George.
EDIT1: Tornado reported very near Ogden. Moving down 114 toward Manhattan.
Just got in from chasing, not sure if its been mentioned but a boy scout camp took a hit, many injured and sadly fatalities being reported by local media, I was on the storm but lost it due to the river, and then opting to drop South... I chased the storms through the Omaha metro for a while, but things are quite linear and messy, IMO the threat is shifting to what will be substantial flooding...
Not Good
TORNADO HIT A BOYSCOUT RANCH JUST NORTH OF THE HARRISON COUNTY LINE. THIRTY TO FORTY INJURIES WITH 4 FATALITIES REPORTED BY HARRISON COUNTY DISPATCH.
I was noticing two pixels, one light blue, one dark red right next to one another in the center of the broader circulations. Is it possible that this may have been the tornado itself? If so, it came very near KSU from what I'm looking at on google maps. This doesn't sound good at all.
Seeing a dark orange next to a dark blue. It looks like the meso is tightening up again.
A couple of nice size storms now blowing up rapidly southwest of Russell, Kansas.
Hearing that Manhattan High has been destroyed as well...
FYI, the KOAX radar has taken a lightning hit and is down as of 2337 UTC.
Extensive damage just been reported in the town of Chapman KS tornado heading toward NW of Junction City.
Interstate 80 interchange near Greenwood, NE.... spotter reports a tornado.
Looks like minor damage to trees/houses, here at Sunset and Hunting in Manhattan, large trees are snapped, power lines are down. It's pretty hard to see with the power out and people are out looking at the damage with heavy traffic.
WIBW out of Topeka has live streaming coverage on their site. Getting ready to hear from Riley Co EMD. I just moved from there in August (worked at KSU), and was the county spotter coordinator for a better part of my time there. I feel your anxiety Mike....
I've heard from a few friends and family, but still waiting to hear from a couple of former co-workers. WIBW is getting confirmation of houses destroyed on west side of town, and at Little Apple Toyota on Seth Child Blvd.
The storm in NE Barton county Kansas has strong rotation with hook moving into western Russell County heading toward and north of town of Black Wolf.
Also strong rotation just NW of Omaha NE tornado's reported with this storm.
Rainwrapped tornado being reported near Morehead, NE by Kenny Allen (stream via SevereStudios) through WOWT in Omaha. Moorhead is just northwest of Omaha near Elkhorn.
*EDIT* Live video just shown on WOWT of Kenny Allen being hit by a tornado in Moorhead, looks to be OK.
*EDIT* NWS Valley, NE reporting a lightning strike taking down their radar.
Just talked to some friends in Manhattan (.5 mi SW of campus)- sounds like their house took a direct hit. Local media said it was up to 1/4 mile wide. Large tree in the front yard uprooted and the house is caked in mud.
It looked like it might hit the campus. Hopefully it didn't, but if it did let's hope it wasn't terribly strong. Sounds like a bad situation. 1/4 mile tornado through a good sized town...
CloudNine Tours is sitting on the south edge of Salina*. Scanners reportedly in Salina report a tornado in south Salina. Gas explosion reported in Salina.
*or at least that is where they were last online.
Salina scanners: http://www.justus.addr.com/scanner/
Looks to me like the tornado is approaching K-99 near Louisville.

Impressive hook near Claflin, KS at the moment ... after passing over Hoisington. NWS reports a tornado very near Hoisington.
EDIT1: TOR 2 mi. NE of Claflin. TOR WRNG Ellsworth Co., moving east at 50 mph.
That storm is a serious right-mover with the environment all to itself. I don't even want to think about what it does if it is still kickin' when the LLJ gets cranking after dark.
Omaha radar back on line
Confirmed tornadoes on the ground in IA and MN as we speak. Most impressive cell seems to be around the Primghar area.
EDIT:
Confirmed Multiple Vortex tornado reported near Spencer, IA.
The hook is very defined on the storm coming in on Hoisington, KS...
4 possible fatalities at the Boy Scout Camp in Little Sioux, IA reported by WOWT in Omaha, but they are not fully confirmed yet.

Report of baseball sized hail at airport.
Very strong rotation and hook shown near Springfield, NE, path shows it going through Bellevue and Papillion in Sarpy county.
EDIT: KOAX Radar is back up.
GRLevel 3 isn't showing much rotation in these storms in E Nebraska until the get near the Missouri River. This is problematic since there aren't a lot of crossings over that major river. You can get across at Blair, but then it is all the way north to Decatur, NE/Onawa, IA before you can get across again.
Just as I type that, the storm approaching Wahoo has some rotation and apparently drops a tube. Fremont is a good sized town that appears to be in the path.
EDIT: New TVS on the storm midway between Lincoln, Seward and Wilber (NE). Storm path would take it well NW of Lincoln on its current vector.
EDIT2: 6:41 CDT. Last update the whole line just got a weaker look to it, but the storm behind the line that should pass near Seward looks to be strengthening and has multiple areas of rotation. The storm is currently southwest of York but looks like the most rightmoving storm of the area, thus far.
Talked to a friend who lives on the north side of Manhattan, she said they spent about the last hour in a storm shelter and everything is fine where they're at, but supposedly the shopping mall and possibly the south side of the K-State campus got hit (very sketchy info at this point). Hopefully everyone in town is OK.
Very heavy mutual aid response in progress for the scout camp with reports of many injured...........
12:56 CDT
Tornado watch extends to the counties in and nearby. These stormcells have rain, hail and moving towards north of St. Joseph.
TWC now has mentioned the Manhattan storm several times.
Visually, towering Cu going up quickly in eastern Edwards/Pawnee Co. KS.
TOR warned cell in Sarpy CO, NE looks to be pass between Bellevue and Plattsmouth, with a direct path to Offutt AFB, possible large rain-wrapped tornado on the ground.
EDIT: No reports of anything on the ground, but several funnel reports
Tornado warning now for Lancaster county in NE including the city of Lincoln. Rotation noted 17 miles southwest of Lincoln moving northeast.
Not a good situation for populated areas in eastern NE.
Much nastier couplet just smacked Soldier, KS.....what a cyclic supercell.
Ft. Riley and Manhattan, KS
Not sure if this system will reach Kansas City though
Ottawa KS storm seems to have a large couplet just outside of Minneapolis -- but no tornado warning. This feature has been persistent for a number of scans now... puzzling.
Very tight couplet appearing west of Holton, KS originating from earlier Manhattan meso.
If Hebron, NE isn't getting clocked then it had a very near miss. Storm Relative Velocity with GRLevel3 is showing rotation right over the town.
Manhattan [Riley Co, KS] emergency mngr reports TORNADO at 10:00 PM CDT -- significant damage to businesses and kansas state university reported. (http://mesonet.agron.iastate.edu/cow/maplsr.phtml?lat0=39.18&lon0=-96.57&ts=2008-06-12%2003:00)
This tornado sounds like it may have the magnitude of EF-2+ from the ominous reports that are coming in. May see a QRT team deployed to KS tomorrow. :(
Massive 'land-hurricane' type cell with tornado warning just SW of Carrol Iowa. (huge area of apparent circulation)
I just received word that a Boy Scout camp called Little Sioux was hit on the N of Omaha. The camp had over 100 hundred boys at the camp this week. All hospital are on code four alert in Omaha injuries are coming in from this camp.
NWS reports debris ball on radar
Reports of extensive damage from Salina, Kansas into the Junction City, Kansas area. Large tornado reported.
Reports of Little Sioux Boy Scouts Camp in Little Sioux has been destroyed, injuries reported, EMS enroute. Pray the everyone is OK.
