HotelExecutive.com NewsWire — GOL Launches New Flights:: GOL Linhas Aereas Inteligentes, Brazils low-fare, low-cost airline, will begin (5.5 million inhabitants) to Buenos Aires, Argentina, on September 16, 2005. http://www.hotelexecutive.com/newswire/pub/_8125.aspHOME | Does anyone have any experience flying GOL for Argentina-Brazil flights, or anywhere for that matter?
We are traveling from BA to Floripa in February and GOL seems to be the best option. Aerolineas has a non-stop on Saturday and Sunday only (GOL makes a stop, no change of planes in Porto Alegre), but Aerolineas's schedule doesn't really work for us and they are more expensive by almost triple. And, recently, I'm not sure if there reputation is so great. TAM also does the flight but it is much longer with a stop.
Is GOL similar to a JetBlue type of airline or more like a Ryan Air, on a not good day?
Gracias.
Back in Feb I used GOL to fly GRU-GIG, GIG-GRU, GRU-EZE and IGU-GRU and for the price was pleasantly surprised. Worldpress.org - World Press Wire:: Brazils low-cost, low-fare airline, began today operating flights to Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay Argentina-Brazil pharmaceutical plant to combat http://www.worldpress.org/feed.cfm?www.mercopress.com:80/Detalle.asp?NUM=7027HOME |
Don't get me wrong it is a low cost carrier but an excellent one in my opinion. Planes are clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Despite rumours I had heard all my flights departed promptly.
Not sure where your based but booking online from the UK (and the US I believe) the only card they accept is AMEX.
Ryan who? :D
P.S With regards to reputation I think TAM is the one to be more cautious of.
Thanks for the feedback.
Between GOL, TAM and Aerolineas Argentinas it seems like it is pick em. (An int'l flight we had with TAM about a year ago, however, was actually quite good.) As suggested, we went with the best schedule, more or less, and would up choosing GOL. Booking with AMEX was easy on line.

As far as non-stops, after much searching, and talking to various airline agents on the phone, the best I could determine - and was told - is that there are a few non stop flights per week, all on the weekend. News about cheap fares and airlines - Trabber News:: GOLs current fleet of 78 aircraft operates 640 daily flights to 60 destinations, Gol now still requires approval from Brazils anti-trust agency Cade, ANAC said http://news.trabber.com/index.php/category/gol/HOME | New airline democratizes Brazils skies | csmonitor.com:: In a nation where even the 50-minute flight from Rio de Janeiro to São Paulo on Gol is aggressively adding routes inside Brazil, and after putting Argentina on http://www.csmonitor.com/2005/0503/p01s02-woam.htmlHOME |
Aerolineas has non stops EZE-FLN on Saturday and Sunday afternoons only. TAM has a non stop on Saturday afternoon, only. The Aerolineas flights were about $500 retrun. The TAM about $330.
Since weekend travel just didn't work for our schedule, we went with GOL. They have a couple of flights per day, morning and evening. The evening flt leaves EZE around 9 p.m. or so, stops in Porto Alegre, you stay on the plane, and arrives FLN around 11:30. GOL was the least expensive. TAM also has daily flights but with longer layovers.
If you do see that some additional non stops are added for the season, pls let us know.
This week I noticed new nonstops.
See below (I responded in the wrong thread):

A while ago, I asked why the only nonstops EZE-FLN are Sat/Sun, and someone mentioned that seasonal flights get added late in the year.
Well I've been checking all year and only just this week did I notice new flights added for next February -- 3 months out. So in case this helps anyone in the future, you might consider buying EZE-FLN late in the year.
Today I see the following available:
TAM nonstop EZE-FLN, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun
Varig nonstop EZE-FLN daily
GOL - just the normal direct daily flight through POA
Aerolineas Argentinas - still only Sat/Sun nonstop
Finally, I read that construction is underway for a new FLN airport to be done in 2008. So maybe it will be easier to find nonstops in the future.
If you do see that some additional non stops are added for the season, pls let us know.
It seems flt changes with GOL are very easy -- a novel concept.
Thanks.
I might have been unclear in what I wrote. I also saw the regular EZE-FLN nonstops on weekends. What I read is that as the season approaches, more nonstops are added. For whatever reason they're not in the schedule this far in advance. I think I read this on tripadvisor, so I can't confirm it and have just been checking periodically. If I've been misinformed then I'll also be getting the same GOL direct flights since weekends don't work for me either. Thanks.
I'm also interested in this flight and read that tam and others add seasonal nonstops eze-fln. I can't confirm this however.
The GOL vs TAM issue is a heated debate. My sister just booked a vacation to Brazil and her Corporate TA told her that TAM was the carrier to use, as GOL has been having issues lately. Im not sure anybody has the 100% right answer... it will depend on who you ask. IMHO, I would go with the carrier that has the most convenient fare & schedule that matches what I want to do.
