Collaborators plan to come up with thorough security research of the existing VoIP implementations and protocols and study such issues as VoIP authentification (this may help to fight voice spam which is now becoming a serious problem), modelling and distributing the VoIP traffic, cellular communication using VoIP security and user agents VoIP applications security.
BellSouth and ISS have funded $300,000 immediately to the programme which is now scheduled to take at least to years. Students from GTISC will work with these two companies’ experts and technical engineers in the field of developing various solutions to improve VoIP security.
Why they need it? Because as sponsors, the companies will have total access to the intellectual property coming up as a result of all the research work.
