I have here a XBOX with latest version from 19. jan
XBOX is in NTSC Mode and 480 p + 720p activated
When i now play DVD copies from the harddisc the movie
is somtimes a little bit unstable (flickering or gets brighter and darker)
sorry for my english i am from austria
My movies are in PAL
What can i do, when i switch the box to PAL the movies are fine.
But than i have no HD resolution in all menues and with my pictures.
Is there any way to get the HD option in PAL to work or a moded bios for this???

important to handle the tv flickering, but also to handle convertions from pal. and engineered, they were specd for interlaced distribution (e.g., DVD-Video)

disable any picture enhancement stuff on your tv. auto contrast, noise removal etc.
I had the same problem, turning off hardware overlays fixed it.

I never heard of anyone with similar symptoms, but I suspect it is a hardware related problem, maybe your cable is broken/damaged or of poor quality, or maybe there is something wrong with your TV(?). Can you try a different cable and/or a different TV?

There is also the possibility that you are describing the issue in a way that I missunderstand the problem?, maybe it is interlace lines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interlace) you are seeing? If so then can you try disable the flicking-filter for videos in the My Video setting, and also enable the bob or weave (try both) deinterlace filter under "Interlaced Handling" under the video OSD (http://www.xboxmediacenter.com/wiki/index.php?title=Video_Settings) while playing and movie, does that help when playing a PAL DVD-Video movie?
