Yes, that's the way some people are. They thumbs up their friends, even though their answers are dumb and they thumbs down a good well thought out more correct answer just because they didn't agree with it. You can answer my questions. People who give the "thumbs-down" to helpful answers just do this for kicks. Also, they just wanted to get some attention that way. That's how I would like to put it.
