The bridalwear world has always had a reputation for being a few seasons behind high street fashion.
The last couple of years have seen a marked change in this regard. There has been a noticable trend in the business towards the fast fashion turnover war that the big high street retailers continue to battle.

No longer is it good enough for a modern bride to look at outdated styles and the typical Granny would would like that one dresses that many shops used to carry.

This year we expect to see a strong return to flamboyant designs (though not like the merangues of the 1980s) with multi-layered textures inspired by the student-led fashion for layering that weve all seen over the last year.
Chic, simple designs will still feature strongly, but there will be a lot more interest in larger Designer Wedding Dresses that really make a statement.
Weve noticed an increased interest in dramatic ball gowns, designed for the wow factor.
Strapless dresses will still feature, but there will be far more interest in halterneck and assymetrical strappy styles.
The only exception to the rule are the dresses designed to be worn in sunny locations for beach weddings. Simple lightweight dresses will be the order of the day for the next few years as far as we can see.
All in all, its good to see change. Fashions by their very nature need to move on.
