The air conditioner in my house keeps freezing. It literally looks like a freezer. The tubes and things inside get completely covered with ice. During the times that it shuts off the ice begins to melt and water drips. Eventually all those drops add up. This is not a window mounted unit. I live in Miami, so it is the kind that you commonly find here. Any one have any ideas as to what's causing this and how I can fix it?
Note, the filter is clean.
system is low on refrigerant, assuming proper air flow (clean filters etc)
You state that the filter is clean, Is the coil clean? You should be getting a good air flow when you first turn on the a/c and the coil has no ice on it. Check the air flow on both the inside and outside. If you don't have a good air flow you need to clean the coils. If you do have a good air flow the unit is low on refrigerant and you will need to have someone service it. You should be able to unplug the unit and pull it out of the wall to clean the coils if their dirty.
