1. WinRAR 3.0 (The best archiver i think :) ) http://www.rarlab.com/
2. TheBAT! (E-mail) http://www.ritlabs.com/the_bat/index.html
Hi David,

i never try it so cant comment.
other good freeware,
1) small registry compare utility
http://regshot.ist.md/
2) download manager w/o banner/spyware
http://www.stardownloader.com/index.php
3) checking file integrity
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/filechecker.html
4) Adware
http://www.lsfileserv.com/
Tiny Trojan Trap is, from what I hear one of the best sandboxes out there. I am trying to think of another famous free one which crashed my WIN 98 comp. I hear it's beter now. Sorry can't think- mMiss Universe Bikini event on now......I'll let u know what it is when I remember. Isn't it funny how bikinis affect the memory? :) (1) Alexander the Great was a great general. New thread? Nah We're just chatting. :)
I use ConTEXT - http://www.fixedsys.com/context/ - for programming and file viewing. It is an amazing editor. I'll never use Notepad or Wordpad again. No file size limits. It's great for programmers and those who simply want to read a file. Syntax highlighting for any file type. It is FREEware. Way too many features to list here.
WinRAR 3.0 (The best archiver i think :) ) http://www.rarlab.com/
TheBAT! (E-mail) http://www.ritlabs.com/the_bat/index.html
EditPlus http://www.editplus.com/
:D TINSTAAFL :D - all of them are great but shareware :)
i reckon Trillian (http://www.trillian.cc/) is just a little germ b'tween other IM progs.
since it network app it makes sense to check this thread (http://www.outpostfirewall.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3369&highlight=Trillian).
Actually, do you have any advice on a good TEXT editor that won't default to Word Pad when the file gets too big???
Actually...yes. Edxor is a great text editor- no size limit and packed with lots more tricks.
http://members.ozemail.com.au/~nulifetv/freezip/freeware/
Well, I am not so sure I have good links.......
http://www.atelierweb.com I like their Security Ports Scanner. It can do TCP connect, UDP, and TCP SYN scanning. I like to try to use it to scan the firewalls of other machines on my small network. Also, a LOT of information is displayed concerning your adapter, LAN, and other connection statistics. The same site has a Port Traffic Analyzer (packet sniffer), but I am afraid to use it since installing Outpost. http://www.goldmemory.cz Think you have a system problem? Think it might be memory. Get this memory analyzing software. DocMemory from www.simmtester.com passed my RAM 51 times. GoldMemory never passed it once and the results were very consistent from run to run. In fact, I had two DIMMs. For the past few weeks, I have been running on one DIMM. That was the DIMM that GoldMemory said was good. I extracted the other DIMM. My computer used to crash on an almost daily basis, and when I say crash, I mean BSOD. But, with the help of GoldMemory, I have had ZERO crashes in 3.5 weeks.
Well, I think that is all that I can contribute. I liked a lot of the utility software in your messages. I need a hex editor.... :) Actually, do you have any advice on a good TEXT editor that won't default to Word Pad when the file gets too big??? :)
Have any of you guys ever heard about "sandbox" programs. I saw Mikhail make a reference about possibly creating one next year. And, it seems that Tiny Software has made something that falls into that category called Tiny Trojan Trap. Are there more like that? Is this a new idea (for Windows)? Is using a program like this a good idea??
Currently I use Outpost PRO, NOD32, and unamed anti-trojan program :). What is the advantage of these sandbox programs?
And, should this be a new thread??? :p

You can read about it here: http://www.editpadpro.com/
For a text editor, which I assuming would be a replacement for Wordpad (.rtf files, etc.), my favorite is "Textshield Fusion" which you can read about here: http://www.textshield.com/

Thanks PaulAS. I haven't been there in a while - didnt even let the page fully load. I appreciate your help.
grey ghost,
you mentioned Foxmail and:
"It has no ads. But does try to call home when you connect.
One rule in Outpost rules wizard stopped that."
What's the rule please. I have been using Eudora for many a year now and will continue using it. Had a quick look at Foxmail. I may use it on the kids machine as it looks pretty neat. The idea of password locking each account is no doubt gonna save on the headache pills.
If only I could password lock the fridge and save my Dr Peppers
OK, because I have a (dutch) freeware site it's easy to add some freeware here to this nice thread:
ArsClip (http://*******.arsware.org/ac.shtml) : great clipboard extender.
Mail Inspector 2000 (http://www.idev.ch/minspect/) : very nice little mail client.
Zoomplayer (http://www.inmatrix.com/files/zoomplayer_download.shtml) : had enough of MS mediaplayer? Use this one
MWSnap (http://www.mirekw.com/winfreeware/mwsnap.html) : for all you're screenshots.
KeyNote (http://www.lodz.pdi.net/%7Eeristic/free/index.html) : storage for all kinds of info (can encrypt).
Any Password (http://www.romanlab.com/apw/index.html) : store your passwords in this great little tool.
Miranda IM (http://miranda-icq.sourceforge.net/) : ICQ bloated? Miranda isn't !!
CacheSentry (http://www.mindspring.com/%7Edpoch/enigmatic/) : control you're IE cache.
SmartFTP (http://www.smartftp.com/) : how can they make this for free ???
DirKey (http://www.protonfx.com/dirkey/) : bookmark folders for fast access.
XNview (http://www.xnview.com/) : you have a lot of images? Vies them with XNview
Drive Resque (http://home.arcor.de/christian_grau/rescue/) : some day you need it......
Iconoid (http://www.sillysot.com/) : manage desktops.
LeechGet (http://www.leechget.de/) : this download manager is going to be great (RC1 is out now).
Outpost Firewall (http://www.agnitum.com/) : ???????????? :D
OK, have fun now browsing and trying all this stuf.
Concerning sand boxes............
Did you use free one's before that crashed your PC.....
The TTT program costs money, I think. Are there any problems with this program crashing computers? Can it interfere with other installed anti-trojan or anti-virus software??? Is it worth the money to have a utility like this??? I would want to use the Agnitum version of a sandbox whenever they release it. But, TTT is all that is available now. Worth getting? Or, should I leave it alone since I do not have any problems with my current software and configuration?
By the way, DCS has a freeware program called "regprot" that alerts you to changes in key registry entries. Is this something like a registry only "sandbox". Or do I have this sandbox idea all wrong?
That ought to be enough questions to make you forget about those bikinis........ :p
Hi,
Just a quick entry.
I have been using Foxmail for several weeks.
It's a free no registration E-mail client.
It's from China. It was recommended in another forum to read Hotmail with no spam.
This is the English version. With help and setup.
I use hotmail. Microsoft partner. MS MVP. etc so I need the account.
In the few weeks I have used it I have received zero, nada, none Spam E-mail from hotmail.
It has no ads. But does try to call home when you connect.
One rule in Outpost rules wizard stopped that.
It also by default blocks all HTML messages. There is a HTML button on the tool bar you can click to view.
If you need or just use Hotmail try this program.
It has the option to leave the messages on the server.

BTW, just tried to go to www.microplanet.com. They are now closed. As you say version 2.5 is now freeware. It can be found at:
http://lightning.prohosting.com/~tbates/gravity/
Were you able to get it to install under Win XP Home? I keep on crashing at the opening screen.
Best,
Paul
Here is a site (http://members.cox.net/scotterpops/downloads/downloads.html) that has a lot of free programs on it. Some have already been mentioned in previous posts, but still worth a peek.
Hi kazzi,
Try this.
protocol -> TCP
direction -> outbound
host -> sms.foxmail.com.cn
remote port -> HTTP
This rule will be generated if you start foxmail with Outpost in rules wizard mode. Select other.
It automatically blocks HTML mail. There is a button on the tool bar that allows you to view HTML if you want to.
My big kids played a joke on me with foxmail. They deleted the spam from my hotmail account so that I thought foxmail was doing it. :)
But no ads and they like it. I did a little sniffing and no outbound traffic.
Hi,
Here is a good program for working with the registry.
Registry Detective
It searches the registry and displays all the directories and keys with the name or information you asked for. It's a viewer only.
Plus it's free:)
I run it with XP and its fine.
If you run 98se or earlier you can get regeistry editor plus.
It works with registry detective and if you click on a registry entry in registry dettective, registry editor plus starts with regedit and takes you to that registry location. It backs up the key and you can edit or remove it.
We are always asking people to check and or clean the registry and this is a safe easy way to do it.

Lithp and CyGho
Many thanks for the pointers to PQBrowser, SpyBot Search & Destroy and LeechGet. I was unaware of these great products!
Regards,
Mark
P.S. May I add to the list? :)
1. Crazy Browser. A good frontend for Internet Explorer and almost identical to NetCaptor (but free).
http://www.crazybrowser.com
2. Avast! Home Electronic Edition. Full-featured anti-virus product which is free for non-commercial, home use. A good alternative to AVG Free Edition.
http://www.alwil.com
3. The latest release candidate of Mozilla is also worth a look. It can filter cookies, pop-up windows, images that are loaded from servers other than the current (so it can filter a lot of banner ads) and the most annoying java scripts. It also has an integrated (but basic) download manager. And it's getting faster.
