I am preparing a business plan, and need to include a marketing study
for the business plan, that includes my desired market penetration. My
business is Physical Therapy and my markets are Queens, Nassau,and
Suffolk Counties in New York. First,I would like a database of both
Physicians who are Orthopaedic Surgeons or Doctors, as well as
Physical Therapists, both categories of professions addressed in the
above three Counties. I would like to correlate the Orthopaedic
Physician and Therapist by location to identify the concentration of
these professionals by neighborhood. With that data collected and
sorted by " MOST" or "LEAST" Concentration, I would like to apply
these statistics to a Three COunty Map to visually identify my market
of opportunity. I would assume the database would also identify the
proximity of physical therapists and orthopaedic physicians to each
other highlighted on a County Map. also believe this same information
would be useful in identification of underserved markets as well. The
Marketing Study will be enclosed with my business plan for
presentation to my local bank for a Business Loan; thus knowledge of
my market which I wish to focus will be paramount in my success or

Clarification on Database-Data and Demographics:
There are three Counties in New York that are my target markets:
Queens County, Nassau County,and Suffolk County--All three are heavily
populated areas.
Within these three Counties are addresses of both Orthopaedic
Physicians and Physical Therapists--A Yellow Page Directory would
classify by title,i.e.,M.D. or
P.T.
I am seeking to identify these physicians and therapists by
address---that is I would like to identify the areas within these
Counties that have the highest concentration of physicians and
therapists. For instance,assumming I researched Queens County, and
summarized all the Orthopaedic Physicians and Therapists by
neighborhood---Example: Kew Gardens, Forest Hills,Hollis,Ozone
Park,Howard Beach,etc.--I would be searching for the MOST Physicians
and Therapists by neighborhood--
Purpose: I am trying to define where the most Ortho doctors and
therapists are located within these Counties---furthermore,I would
like to visually represent these pockets of highest concentrations on
a map of the above Counties.
By identifying these target markets, I can limit my marketing campaign to the
concentrations or pocket audiences that I am trying to reach.

I belive that zip code works fine---but would still require a map

Go buy an atlas of each county and of the metro area. Go to yahoo Maps
and ask for driving directions to each address from some static point.
It will show you where to mark the dots on your atlas. It will also
tell you the driving distance, which is probably more pertinent than
the way a crow flies. It's probably a little bit of work, but good
luck with that. By the way, if you do this right, the rest of your
business plan can probably be mediocre. In-depth marketing research
coupled with reasonable revenue forecasts will usually land you the
loan.

You may have better luck breaking this into smaller questions, and
assigning a dollar value to each part. For example, sometimes a
researcher can answer 1 part, but not all of it. Just my advice.

Most of the data of this type that I've seen in the past is available
by zip code (rather than, say, by neighborhood names). Would zip code
data work for your needs?
Also, Google Answers is pretty-much a text-only operation. I may be
able to find the underlying data that you need for the purposes of a
map, but I couldn't post a map (or any images) right here in the
answer box.
Were you expecting a researcher to create a map for you? Or are you
just looking for the numbers on which such a map could be based?
